Default Auto transmission additives

I am going to be changing the fluid and filter on my auto sometime this week. I purchased some Dextron to put in it, does anyone here have any recommendations as to any additives or conditioners that work well in the auto? I can get Lucas here at my local parts store but it has the consistency of molasses and it kind of scares me!

We use a BG product at our shop, but the guy that knows these transmissions is Steve, I would take his advice on it.

I recently put in the Lucas 'transmission honey'. Difficult to say if it improved the shifting, but it has slowed or stopped the oil pump/converter seal leak.

If you are using the Lucas goop, mix it half and half with ATF before you try pumping it into the reservoir! It took me a good hour to pump half of it in before I thought to mix it. (It is thick, but it mixes instantly with ATF.) Make sure to drain at least two quarts before hand, then refill as needed.

Is this the seal that usually leaks at the Torque Converter?

OK, I was wondering about that. I am doing a fluid change so if I go this route I will pre-mix it. Did you use the whole bottle?

Before you add anything to the trans fluid, ya gotta ask yourself...

Are you having a problem that deserves a trans additive? Most if not all trans additives are made to help mask symptoms of som problem that the owner doesn't want to take care of. All have some downside that isn't always apparent. If there are no problems now, no need for any additives.

JMHO.

I have a small leak, not sure where I am going to see when I get under there. I was looking for something that would condition my seals as my car hasn't seen a lot of miles over the last 4 years.

I have my tranny out right now doing TT & TC bearings. The PO paid some local yokel $850 to fix the leak around the TC. They replaced the seal around the input shaft, but failed to replace the big oring seal behind the pump. AT fluid still pours from this. I ordered everything I need from Roger to correct this situation.

I had my TC out, replaced the bearings and the seal and stopped there. Did not repace the "O" ring.

When all was back together, I had a very small leak. A drop or 2 on the floor after every drive. I read here about good success with "Trans-X" so after hoping for a month or so it would go away (it didn't) I added the "Trans-X" and now no drips at all. Even seemed to help the shifting.

I am not sure if it was the seal or the "O" ring, but whatever it was its not leaking now.
