update on "impulse buy"
I've been driving the heck out of this thing and it runs like a champ!
It really exceeded my expectations from a performance perspective. It feels very fast to me and it handles great.
But, I decided to get on a roll and get it painted. I started removing all the trim and sanding it down today. Bumper covers were a pain in the *** to remove. They look like they will be even worse to reinstall... Should be ready for the painter soon!
I can't wait to get it done. I also ordered a ton of parts to start really making this thing nice.
I did put some recaro knock offs in it for now because my seats are just totally ragged. I will be saving my pennies for the real thing (928leather, Paul Champagne) but for now I just want to have it ready to drive, without breaking the bank. Hopefully my painter will start on it within the next two weeks

yep, drop in fit. Very easy to install. It took me 30-40 minutes to pull the 4 bolts out of the old ones and reinstall these. Very comfy. My next door neighbor liked them so much he said he may put them in his viper. They are just some cheap ones off ebay but they worked out great for now. I would prefer the original but mine were totally trashed. This 928 apparently sat outside in the sun for like 10 years and all the leather cracked up. I am amazed at how little rust there is underneath though. All of the bolts holding on the bumper seemed new/not rusty or frozen.

I just rolled them. The guy before me had started them and chipped up the paint. I finished rolling them up to clear the 295's better. Definitely wanted that done before the paint. Thanks Glenn.

Update on "impulse buy"
Got together with Jim today - "jadz928" and he took some pics of the newly painted impulse buy. Thought I would post them to update this thread. Got to ride in Jim's 928 euro...very smooth ride. Made me realize I still have a lot of work to do on mine. Thanks again for the shifter and the advice today Jim!
Attached are the pics. I am really happy with the paint considering I did the body work I think my painter fixed more than a few of my screw ups so it turned out nice, I think. It took me a while to put everything back together. Definitely a lot harder to put it together than pull it apart. Still have to put in door panels/jams etc and order all the little clips I broke when pulling it apart For now I'm having fun driving it around!

nice paint job, the rear ride height looks pretty hi the tops of the tires should tuck into the fenders, on a 928 when the wheel moves up it actually pivots towards the inside if the fender, that is if the ride height is set correctly

The po did raise the ride height slightly with a couple of spacers in the back springs to clear the 295 tires. I rolled the fenders prior to painting so the tires should clear better now. I may also go to 285 tires to be sure. I plan on putting in new shocks soon and I will probobly remove the spacers then.

Great to meet you today, Mike. His car is really sweet. 5 speed. No rub strips, no sunroof, no rear wiper, S4 wing. The seats are really nice and comfortable. I would put those in my car anyday.
The paint job quality is very good. The paint color is really fantastic! Reminds be of Sterling's Cognac.
The way he's going with interior will make this an excellent contender to Jim B's VERY brown '80.
And the motor is a strong running 4.5L!
What else can I say? Oh yea, you made me jealous today with the paint job. Chewy needs new paint in a bad way.

Hey Chief -
Where'd you get your car painted?
Also, if you guys in Richmond ever need help with a maintenance project, send me a PM. I'm in Richmond frequently (grew up there, still have family and friends there, and it's a short drive) and I can bring a nice assortment of tools

Thanks for props guys! I got the car painted by a local guy that is starting his own body shop. I really thought he did a great job. He gave me a good deal because he wanted a porsche on his website and I did the disassembly and most of the prep. I would highly reccomend him if you need a paint job at a reasonable price. He did base clear and it really turned out nice.
We may have to do a Richmond get together with all these local 928s
