Jees Mike !! you ended up having to get another motor for 'The Meteor'? I saw that you were looking at that 5sd from fleabay last week... oh, so that's the '3k' already' spent. Man sure hope this rocky start is not too much of a bummer !! My neighbors wife just got him a ghastly thousand dollar Cobalt tool box set, The good part is I might get his old Craftsman 11 drawer just to make room! Good luck with it !!! Kevin

Great find Greg. I'm effin' tired of my cut-down too-long triple-square JB-welded into a throw-away socket.

I just ordered these:

http://www.toolsource.com/metric-tri...t-p-94285.html

They probably aren't half as good as the Blue-points from Snap-on. But, they are half the price and I will use them way less than half as much as you will yours.

Nonetheless, they will be handy little buggers.

I love tools!

I just picked up the 1/4" drive swivel head metric drives from Sears to help put the fuel rails back on with the plenum spacers. Most normal (??) people don't understand why I need three different brands of 17mm box end wrenches. Well heck all three get used to install the steering rack due to slightly different dimensions!

I have a couple of Husky boxes stacked that are a good compromise. They fit my foolishly small two car garage but hold a ton of stuff. I'll have to get some pics.

Will the sizes in the set that Worf found take care of all (or almost all) of the 928 needs? (4M, 5M, 6M, 8M, 10M, 12M, 14M, 16M)

I spent some time at industrial auctions, and bought Stanley Vidmar cabinets by the pound. I'm down to three roller cabs (Snap-On and Mac) and four Vidmars in the garage, plus an 8' Bob-built undercounter drawer cab for 'supplies'. The Vidmars are great, with roller-bearing drawers and a lot flexibility in dividers compared with the roller cabs.

Meanwhile, it was only a year or two ago when Rob Edwards sent me a ling to a CL listing for one of those big train-car sized Snap-on boxes full of virtually unused Snap-On tools for $15k. For the price of a nice S4 including the first-year resto/maintenance stuff, I could have a box of tools to put in that new car's parking space. Somebody with ready cash got a hell of a deal. I'd need a liftgate truck to haul it up the hill here. Still a great deal for somebody.

Moral: Don't ignore the used and distressed market when looking for tools and shop equipment. For folks with the tool truck coming buy, those guys often know where there are distressed situations in other shops. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I have been organizing my tools all week trying to get ready for the motor that was supposed to be here today. (it was delayed and is supposed to arrive tomorrow) I havn't had all my tools back in my Snap On box in years. My garage was literally not able to be walked through last week. We moved from a 4000s.f. house into a 1700s.f. house, and everything got jammed into my "office". Anticipating the motor, I rented a dumpster and have gone to town...I got all my tools while working on aircraft. While the extra expense of the Snap On or Mac might seem crazy to some, the service of having them come out is great. When ever something broke, you get a fresh new tool... DELIVERED. And whenever the truck showed up, it was cause for a nice 30 minute break in an air-conditioned area full of cool ****. Like you said, it does not make your monthly payment go up a penny to get new toys TODAY! I'm getting fairly organized now, only problem is all of my Snap On and Mac tools are fractional (aircraft)... So I've got very nice fractional and crappy metric tools in a hellova nice box... Photo below is the same model as mine. I dont have that top box, as it was always better to have a short box at the airport to get under wings in the hangar. I've got a side box hanging on the right side. It's an older box (they hadn't started using roller bearing drawers yet) but it has some nice features, like the spring loaded casters (for going over hangar door roller guides without making all the tools look like they were in a 6.0 earthquake), and a back cabinet for storing liquids and other flamables. It served me well when I was wrenching for a living, and is a pure luxury now that its just for home. The height is perfect as a mobile work bench, and I always liked the placement of the drawers, as you can work on something at the front left corner, and open drawers left and right without steping away from the box. Handy if you're trying to hold something together and need a different tool. I'm now getting pretty excited, as all of the tools are finding their places again after years of being used and stored everywhere but in the box. I'll post some photos of my actual rig when I prep the engine....

People that do not use a tool box every day can not understand how quick you can wear out a cheap box, it is not a area to skimp on.

Whose boxes did you look at? Tell us about them.
Trust me, you don't have to use a cheap tool box everyday to wear it out.

I bought a Mac box one time, it was toast in three years, never again.

Default My setup

Here's my mod for the fuel rail that helps to fit the swivel socket into the fuel rail when you've got plenum spacers.

Here's a shot of the garage!
