Default Neat short xzn sockets off the tool truck.

I thought they were neat any way, and for things that come off the toy truck they were cheap compared to a lot of things, $52.00

All of the other ones I have are long, really long.

Not a very good picture, but this is the Blue Point 12 next to a Mac and a Snap-On of the same size.

I have a long one like the one of the left in your pic. I cut it dow and glued it into a socket. I think I paid $10 for my set of 3 which I've only used twice. $52, albeit nice looking, is too rich for my blood.

I guess I dont pay much attention to what tools cost anymore, it is not going to change my weekly payment.

I need a set like that a few times, as late as last week I need one for taking the flywheel off my motor while it was on the stand, and my stand has 6 inch stand offs, there was not enough room to get the Snap_On socket and ratchet in there to do it.

I bet that the one Snap-On socket was almost as much as the whole set of Blue points.

As it's your profession, the value proposition for you is very different than for someone like me who views tools as a hobbiest expense.

They do look nice and handy, however.

Or I am addicted to tools, one of the two.

I understand, I have what at the time was the biggest snap on one they had, I out grew it years ago, the new big box from them is into late model GTS money.

People that do not use a tool box every day can not understand how quick you can wear out a cheap box, it is not a area to skimp on.

Whose boxes did you look at? Tell us about them.

I'm scrounging craigslist for a nice 18-22 drawer, 56 inch flat top. I've got 3 craftsman (crapsman) that are over flowing, cabinets over flowing, work top space over flowing and really need something.

I need one of these

And one of these.

But today I was browesing around at Sears and the biggest one they have might just work. Quality seems be up there now and they really wanted to make a deal on it.

That is actually a good price on that box, but unless you are doing this every day and plan to for a long time, cheaper boxes will do.

Rick just bought a 30,000 MAC box for the shop. Glad I didn't have to buy that one!

I did know that mac had any boxes that were that much, that is more than some of the biggest Snap-On's.

I have a five-drawer drawing cabinet, and I love it! I would happily pay $50 each for them.

The tool bug has recently bitten me, and while I've aquired a decent starter to hand tools, I'm still looking for a small, solid 3/8" ratchet. The only one I have is a flex-head longer craftsman, I want a shorter (8" or so) solid head one, so I'm looking at a SK 72 tooth one, or maybe picking up one of those snap-on ratchets I'm seeing on E-bay. Thoughts?

Oh, and I need a toolbox. Thinking about getting a small, mobile one as I have few tools, and I travel a lot, so being able to bring some with me would be nice. Craftsman has a $60 or so 4 drawer, portable tool box. Anyone have any better suggestions?

Its easy to get a nice collection of expensive tools when you have a revolving account and they come by once a week... I have been organizing my tools all week trying to get ready for the motor that was supposed to be here today. (it was delayed and is supposed to arrive tomorrow) I havn't had all my tools back in my Snap On box in years. My garage was literally not able to be walked through last week. We moved from a 4000s.f. house into a 1700s.f. house, and everything got jammed into my "office". Anticipating the motor, I rented a dumpster and have gone to town...I got all my tools while working on aircraft. While the extra expense of the Snap On or Mac might seem crazy to some, the service of having them come out is great. When ever something broke, you get a fresh new tool... DELIVERED. And whenever the truck showed up, it was cause for a nice 30 minute break in an air-conditioned area full of cool ****. Like you said, it does not make your monthly payment go up a penny to get new toys TODAY! I'm getting fairly organized now, only problem is all of my Snap On and Mac tools are fractional (aircraft)... So I've got very nice fractional and crappy metric tools in a hellova nice box... Photo below is the same model as mine. I dont have that top box, as it was always better to have a short box at the airport to get under wings in the hangar. I've got a side box hanging on the right side. It's an older box (they hadn't started using roller bearing drawers yet) but it has some nice features, like the spring loaded casters (for going over hangar door roller guides without making all the tools look like they were in a 6.0 earthquake), and a back cabinet for storing liquids and other flamables. It served me well when I was wrenching for a living, and is a pure luxury now that its just for home. The height is perfect as a mobile work bench, and I always liked the placement of the drawers, as you can work on something at the front left corner, and open drawers left and right without steping away from the box. Handy if you're trying to hold something together and need a different tool. I'm now getting pretty excited, as all of the tools are finding their places again after years of being used and stored everywhere but in the box. I'll post some photos of my actual rig when I prep the engine....
