Guys,

Sorry about the wait, my real job has me working 60-80 hour weeks right now, which has made it a bit difficult to get to all of my "side" projects at the moment.

But I have not forgotten, and have every intention of completing the rear speaker extensions in a few weeks, the hatch mechanism shortly after, and a splitter unit 3rd.

Gentlemen,

Have an SKE of the rear speaker adaptors that I will be converting over to SolidWorks in a weeks or so to begin molding. One quick question:

-do you want to add 3/4" or 1" of depth? Or more? Also, it will be a one piece design that will completely replace the old speaker/speaker plate. It did not look "right" with just bolting on an extension ring.

Let me know of the desired depth, I will be making only one size to keep costs as low as possible. This is all I am waiting for to finish these.

RECEIVER PART:
-Does anyone know the cost of the OEM replacment? The reason I ask, is that this piece (as unassuming as it is) is not just a simple "punch" and "go" piece. It is an injection molded urethane unit. The tooling for this item if I stay with IM is around $11k...I know...crazy. So either volume or cost makes up the difference.

OR

Another option is to have these "printed", which is extremely cheaper. I would outsource the printing as I do not do that here. I have someone we do joint projects who would not rake us over the coals for a small run. But would like an idea of the cost AND potential quantities so I know whether or not to green light once I get his quote back.

Thanks for the input....and sorry for the slight delays, my real jobs have been hectic as of late.

Patrick-

Like the avatar!

The rear hatch receiver (928 512 055 20) is $100-$110, hence the interest in a replacement. You can only buy the whole shebang, as I sent you. Mark A, Roger, or DR are the best people to ask about the size of the market for it. Many (most?) 928's on the road need a replacement.

I can't answer the speaker question but my guess is people will vote for 1". As you can see, the factory driver is extremely shallow, so I'd bet people want as much room for bigger magnet structures without contacting the underlying body metal.

Anyone got a pic of the body behind the 6.5" driver on an S4 to show Patrick?

Might as well go 1". Not more though - it will look too bizarre.

That is as it should be.

This is the circular surround right? For 89-95? Not the "squarish" surround for pre-89?

Dave-

I sent Patrick a set of '89-95 speakers to model, so hopefully that's what he's used to make a SKE, whatever that is.

I vote 1" too. Any more and my kids will knock into them getting in and out.

Look at a few of the decent sounding 6.5/6.75" speakers on the market and find an acceptable depth you need the speaker enclosure built to.

Can't help you if you guys are buying those massive SPL 6" bass units that are deeper than they are wide.

I would like to see:

1) modernised, updated centre vent with (no mechanical parts and less cheap-looking)
2) LH/EZK computer cover in passenger footwell
3) rear wing of much lighter material
4) mirrors
5) lexan rear glass and quarter glass
6) radiator fan housing for better fans
7) rear bumper cover with Kamm tail
8) spare tyre cover
9) fuse panel cover (top and bottom, easy to make)
10) driver's footrest (stock part too heavy)
11) rear seat tops (existing are super heavy)
12) rear ac delete plug (removing rear ac leaves hole in floor)
13) redesigned door armrests
14) redesigned smaller handbrake housing so regular Porsche seats fit
15) Lexan sunroof panel replacement
16) redesigned KH/EZK holder
17) insert for centre console that is easily removable for easy access without removing console
18) plastic centre console side panels
19) plastic door interior panels (these get wet and fall apart at the bottom)
20) clip-on strengthening piece for rear interior quarters where they flare from sun
21) Side skirt kit (I forget who the doc was at SITM in a white car who had them .. gorgeous!!)
22) rear diffuser to bolt onto rear undertray for better wind handling
23) proper bellypan that ties to existing S4 front bumper cover/chin and goes all the way to before the "cats"

X2. Porsche calls it cowling (over w/wiper motor and linkage). I've never seen an original one intact.

I vote for the 3/4 inch. Most of the 6.5 inch speakers can fit the stock depth already in that spot. Its the crossovers that may not fit behind there. Also, You may want to show some type of drawing for this part before you actually start producing this. I have been dealing with this stock GTS mounting design and speaker cover to try to improve it for a long time and I am pretty particular when it comes to how this is going to look, fit and accept different sized speakers for a close to factory looking unit. I am looking forward to seeing this part produced soon!
Thanks,
James

I specialize in molded plastic exterior and interior parts. Materials range from ABS, High Impact Plastics (HIPS), Lexan, Polycarbonate, etc.......

Recent and ongoing projects for the 951:
-one piece Batwing (OEM skid plate)/splitter in 2 trims....street (2" lip) annd race (4" lip)
-component speaker adaptors in OEM finishes
-968 style FG wings/spoilers
-clear lenses (every lens on the car is available in clear or smoke finish)
-updated side skirts (in OEM matching materials/finish)
-944 NA front spoiler/splitter
-dash mounted gauge pods (in OEM surround matching finish)
-Cup style mirrors

This is just to give you an idea of what can be done.

As I have no idea what you gents may be looking for (everyone that PM'd me had a different request ), please clue me in if there is something I can help you with.

There is nothing that cannot be made, and at a reasonable cost if the demand fits.

Thanks for your time and let me know what you want.
If you can make side skirts like this for a 928 GTS i would buy a set

Im looking at having them done in CF but would prefer a flexible plastic like the bumpers

Len those are cheap and easily available from Porsche parts outlets. I replaced my left side one recently, was about $US4, so probably not more than $AU10
