Default Ultra Sonic Cleaner

Ultra Sonic Cleaner

Does any one have a recommendation for one, or one to stay away from?

I need one big enough for a 928 piston.

Thanks, Greg

Mine's a "Crest". Very nice machine, not all that much money. Get one that is big enough to do a bunch of things. Once you have one, you'll be cleaning everything in it. Mine's
20" x 12" x 16", on the outside. All stainless, with a heater. One of the best things I ever bought.

I have a tabletop Bransonic model B220, price = free 'cause someone arbitrarily decided it was scrap. The tub is ~10" by 5 x 5 or so, big enough for a piston, but it doesn't heat. Heat helps. Are you looking to de-carbonize stuff? I've been soaking GT pistons in Chem Dip 1 at a time for 2 weeks each since Christmas, hadn't thought to toss them in the sonicator.

There's a gorgeous 5 liter 3210 on Ebay, ending in 90 minutes.

Shouldn't this be in the detailing forum?

I am going to do a search on the crest machines right now.
Do you find yours big enough for your needs?

Thanks Greg

Yes, I am sure I will need to take carbon off.

Hi Greg
Would you mind looking at this page and see which one you think I need.
Which one do you have?

Edit (I forgot to include the link)
http://www.crest-ultrasonics.com/tabletops_category.htm

A big pot of boiling water always worked well for me. A little redneck but it does work very very well but do NOT put soap in with it though. oh and don't do it when the wife is around the smell can be um um interesting to say the least

I got one of those cheap Chinese machines on eBay and it broke after just a few uses. Going to buy another one, this time a nice digital name brand for 4X as much, as it's probably way cheaper...

While it worked, as well as it worked, it convinced me of the absolute need for one of these. Fortunately, though, I went well-known-brand on a nice jewelers steam gun, and it's still working rather well.

The steam gun is small, but puts out about 70psi and is the sort with a handheld gun, with about 6 feet of hose. Brightens gemstones AND degreases Maseratis... And if you mess with me, I'll poof you in the face with it.

Update

I wanted to go the route that Greg did and get that really nice heated one, but the funds just were not there.

Today at Harbor Freight they had one that was heated, 2x the size of the one I've been using so I picked this one up for $50.00. Decent capacity, has heat and various other settings. Should work and if it breaks after a while, it will be worth the $50.00.

How do you use those things? Do you put some kind of cleaning solution/solvent in there as well, or are the vibrations supposed to do all of the work?

How well would it work on greasy freshly pulled oil pan bolts? or suspension washers, nuts , and bolts?

Greg Brown has been using one for a long time, he would be the one to ask.
I have not got my hands on mine yet.
