Hi Ole. As an owner of a 90 S4 from Japan, I figure I'd better chime in. Although my experience is likely worse than most, in the 3 years I've had my car I've spent more than the purchase price on repairs. And that's without a TBF (pretty much everything else, mind you).

My advice would be to purchase one of the cars regularly advertised on this forum. The asking prices seem depressingly low (for a current owner) and you can generally get a vehicle history. IMO the value in buying a car that is a known quantity far outweighs the couple grand you might save up front on a Japanese import.

I don't mean to be a downer about this. The Euro models certainly have some advantages and I love my car (when it's not in the shop), but if I was buying my first 928 right now, knowing what I do now, I'd definitely get one from the States or Canada.

Whichever way you go with your purchase - Good Luck & welcome to the fold.

Where are you reading the VIN off of? The correct VIN will be in the windshield drivers side low off column. The reason I ask is my car has a ZZZ VIN on the passenger fender and a USA VIN on the windshield.....As far as I know every car starts life with a ZZZ number and then some are changed as the car is assembled.

US cars start life with US VIN which has ZZZ in VDS code section and Z in check digit. VIN looks like ROW VIN but its not same. 13th digit is still US model specific.
