Forgot to check manufacture plate on a car I looked at today for birthdate. Does the VIN tell me anything? It was advertised as 90 S4. VIN 928.307.027.06 Also I could not find option code in th usual spot.

The car is a ROW, probably from Japan. Its is a '90 MY from the 'L' on the VIN. There should be another label inside the drivers door which gives month and year.

Have a look at this:

The Japanese cars are configured/optioned a little different from cars that were originaly imported to Canada. Also, the ones I've seen here seem to have more paint issues especially on the engine.........nothing drastic, could be the sea voyage to and from.

There's still much to learn about these cars but after 8 years, working on my own car, reading the manuals and spec books one does gain some knowledge of the marque.

There was a thread some years ago re. retrieving all the cars info from the VIN but I dont recall if that was only for US cars.

The option code label should under the rear carpet on top of the fuel tank. If not there perhaps another 'lister can advise on the VIN trace.

BTW the VIN is of a very early build for the model year.

Once Galgary Ole's question has been answered, I'd very much appreciate any help on figuring out whether VIN WP0JB0929HS860983 has a squirter block. I haven't opened this or any other 928 engine, so that's why I am interested in your guesses.

Tuomo............the VIN is for a North American car MY 1987 so its highly probable it does have a squirter block.

Do you know the engine number? it should start with 81H _ _ _ _

I know the engine is original, but I don't yet have the engine number. I'll post the number once I have it.
