Yes that was my first design, but the cost of an aluminum oil cap plus a 1" swivel 90 fitting adds almost $100 to the cost of the kit :-(

I have the aluminum Oil Caps already made, if someone wants a setup that way I can accommodate for an additional fee.

BTW, if you are concerned about adding oil with the X version it includes a special tool....and a zip lock bag to store it in after use :-)

You might recognize it as the late style 928 front Tow Eye Plug :-)

Which "tower" is drilled?

Ok, I see. I just placed my order via your website for a provent and checkvalve. I already have most of the rest of the hoses plumbed in a similar way.

Thanks for taking the time with me on the phone the other day DR. It wasn't wasted.

DR,

Have you considered adding the vents to the other valve cover and plumbing them in too, or is there no point?

Hi Colin,

I did a lot of testing with that on my SC systems and found for me it wasn't worth the hassle. If anything I feel the drivers side should be vented as a fresh air intake due to the rotation of the engine.

However, as you can see from our GTS SharkVent (see graphics and GTS protoype photo below) we accomodate the drivers side vent (it's hidden under the fuel rail) in the system and that extra T fitting can be added by request to any of the other SharkVent Kits.

That's awesome... I totally could have used that on my euro... It's great to see a really well-designed and tested system on the market.

How would one tell if the smoke is originating in the intake versus the head/cylinders?

The smoke is generated when oil is burned in the combustion chamber. How that oil gets in there is not so easy to find out. What you can do is try to minimize it. A crankcase ventilation system will stop oil from getting there from the intake side.

Those of us w/ early 87's with the aluminum filler necks would probably need to go with the modified caps in order to run the SharkVent-X version. Seems it would be more complicated to drill out and tap into aluminum rather than the plastic on the later cars, no?

You only drill a hole, no tapping is required. . The fitting we use is threaded but there is an o-ring and nut on the inside.

IF you happen to be removing your intake it is also an opportune time to upgrade to the GTS Oil filler neck. It is only $75 new and doesn't have the 2 lower ports that need to be blocked off.

The X version was my first design, I came up with the Standard Version for those that don't feel comfortable drilling their Oil Filler Neck. But it really isn't a big deal, you tape off the inside, drill the hole and vacuum it out. On the 87-up the hole is on the bottom so if you want to go back to stock later I have a nice plug that can be inserted in the hole and you would never know it was done.

Why not just go with the standard version that uses the existing orifice on the neck?

Chris,

Here is a pic of the hole in the filler neck, as you can see it is really easy to get to.

But as Dave says, the Standard Version works very well and unless you are boosted or have an extreme blow-by issue it is not really neccesary to get the X version.

I probably will, but was wondering how it would work with the aluminum filler neck. Remember Dave, "there are no stupid questions" ... or have people just be telling me that to make me feel better
