Good eyes, this is a G50:
Wow - why would you use a 928 transmission?
To really play devils advocate, why a 928 engine? I love the cool factor, but from a pure performance and even cost level it's an odd choice. A Chevy LS motor is quite a bit lighter, can produce this kind of power un-boosted.
Twin turbo's on a custom built motor (I would hope it's not bone stock) I would expect a hell of a lot more then 617bhp.
So who's thinking this is a non-functioning mock up?

I think its awesome. Seems like a competent piece of engineering overall, lets not bash the drive-train choice too much until we see what it can do. The proof will be in the actual performance, achievements and hopefully success. If they can get the combo to work, it could boost peoples perception of the 928's performance potential and value in a positive way.

Three Wheelin'
me think it's great ! do not believe there was no engineering involved choosing that engine.... at least because its a proven block ... with modern possibiltys... no push rod here ( revs ? )
I wonder why not a 32V ???? is it because once you go FI , 2 or 4 valves doesn't matter ??? you "pump" it in, so the advantage is less moving parts .. no ?
but ofcourse it remains strange to rely on a old engine to make a new race car ??? or can they still be ordered new ????

You can not buy ANY 928 engine new anymore....When the last GTS engines were available Porsche wanted over $30,000 for ONE ! My guess is they would like to use the chilipepper Turbo engines but I have no Idea how much one of those would cost. The "car" is mostly a replica of a 962 but not using the flat six turbo engine which have become very expensive and at the high power levels are only GOOD for a few hours of racing before they must be rebuilt.

They got the engine and transmission cheap on Ebay?
They found that they could buy a complete and running 928 for less than the cost of a Chevy short block?

You can see the rather intricate twin cable shifter to get to the shift shaft on the front of the 928 transaxle as noted a 911 gearbox is "backwards". Interesting bit of work but is just a "kit car" with a very questionable choice of engine and transmission.

But it does have a darn nice "Y" transition into the throttle body :-)
Looks kind of familiar, I know I have seen something similar somewhere...
