Gotta agree that there needs to be a time reference. I've spend $1200/yr avg on my GT that I've owned for almost 9 years. It's a mixture of everything from maintenance items and lots of upgrades, to fixing things that I screwed up trying to fix something else.

Too much to total, and way too confusing to separate amongst the various cars now, since we've had 4 cars and lots of stuff that was purchased for the first are now in the second and fourth cars.
But I can say, in the 7 years we have owned these cars, I know for a fact that we've got over $100k total across them all, though I have no clue how much more. Most was spent on the first one....over $60k in purchase price, repairs and upgrades for that one alone.
My file fills an accordian folder almost six inches deep now. I keep all the receipts for all the cars together, as the parts they represent are so mixed together on the cars as well. The receipts are only sorted alphabetically into the file by vendor. "I" is a very stuffed letter.

I was sick enough to actually total up my receipts including the purchase price of $10,000. Sure enough everything comes to $22,745.23 between what my Dad and I put into the car.
Scary.
Scary.

It's hard to figure out a fair way to evaluate or compare costs. Time would need to be in the equation, as mentioned. Miles driven too.
I paid $16K 9 years ago, have replaced the rear axles (just for CV boots), wheel bearings, LH brain, steering rack and tie rods (actually not needed), shock absorbers, motor mounts, pan gasket, AC compressor, alternator and brake rotors in addition to usual maintenance items in 127K miles of driving. Total cost probably less than $30K, not counting upgrades and fuel costs. The only prior owner spent $62K to buy the car (discounted from $72K after it sat unsold for a year) plus $11K on dealer service and repairs in 9 years and 72K miles. So, he spent $1/mile or $8K/year while I have spent about $0.40/mile or $3.5K/year, total cost excluding fuel and upgrades. He spent more upfront and more per mile on maintenance/repairs, while I spent more per year on maintenance/repairs.

Guys....time really is irrelevant...think about it...928's are far enough along the depreciation curve thats its not significant compared to newer cars....the significant costs are the upgrades and repairs....mostly upgrades.......
With that said...heres mine
Black Widow: $13,500 purchases price....with WAY too much since then..with no end in sight!! :>(
Sharky: $15,500 purchase price (2004) almost $12k since then...which isn't bad really about $3k per year for such a nice 928....
So both of mine are in the 20-30 catagory...but I think the widow will soon be FAR more than that!

I just did another huge one going up a long onramp yesterday. Must have hit the open differential just right as both tires lit up with huge smoke and the car fishtailed a bit. I had to let up on the throttle and once I got grip, I left some kind of AMG way behind that was trying to pass me before we merged. The rear BFG KDW2s are now completely shot while the fronts look like new. Good thing Brian didn't say to include tires in the cost of ownership.

I purposely excluded that just for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like its time for an LSD!!!
I'll tell ya when I had the old 335/30-RA1's on the widow....1st gear was almost useless even with the LSD and I only have 291ftlbs down low....anything past 1/2 throttle and you were parked..... BUT it sure was FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!
the bummer is the R888's have far more grip....more of a quick chirp then your GONE....

I have 5 out of 6 that cost <$5k and run great - including the GTS.
One is a insurance buy back, one is a signing bonus, and three were just being in the right place at the right time.
Well actually - all - are being in the right place at the right time...
It ain't easy being the under $1,000 928 King, but someone has to do it.
