Default Help With Bizarre elec. issue

I have a 1983S auto trans 4.7L US spec.

I pulled the pod and console to change out some bulbs and add Jagers`s LED dash/console/clock lights. Everything went back together with a minimum of aggravation but the test drive was not good.

The car started right up and all lights /guages work. When I put it in drive and moved forward, the speedo, fuel and temp guages started to jump up in time with forward speed. Same thing happens in reverse. Car is fine stoppped. Move forward and temp/fuel will peg and speedo to 50mph move just a little more forward and they all go back to normal. Am I missing some sensor or plug or ???????

this is not engine speed related, it appears to be vehicle speed related . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not that I have been in there, but sounds like a connector is fitted to the wrong place , or connctions are cross feeding - note that the speedo works by reading a circuit that opens/closes 8 (or is it 9?) times a wheel revolution....

That is what I was thinking too. Try changing around the connectors in the back of the Pod.

The edge connectors should be keyed so they cant be fitted in the wrong place - ie some sort of tongue/groove thing that prevents wrong placement, like slots in pc memory cards etc. Hope you didnt have to force anything into place?

Did you make any changes at the CE panel?

Hold On,
1st of all check to make sure that the plug is well seated onto the cluster. It may be that easy, if not ...

"there is a ground dehind the pod that the pod connections go to - could also just be poor connections on the pod connectors - clean them up (erase) and make sure they are seated well when you reinstall..."

Looking at the wiring diagram, it looks like the A & B connectors were swapped.
