Default 79 Fuel Line Update

I had posted last week about renewing the long line on the 79 and wanted to provide and update. Lines still looking good, no leaks, holding up good, but after sitting for 9 months, the car ran like absolute dog poop! I'm here to report (as others probably know) that CIS does not like to sit!

Last week I had a fire under me to complete the job and get the wife's new car in the garage. I had a chance to let it run for about a half an hour but it bucked and sputtered all the way to the storage place about a mile from my house. Today I'm happy to say that it did fire right up after sitting for 7 days, but it still ran like crap. I literally "chugged" over and put about 1/2 a tank of 93 in it and a bottle of injector cleaner. At first she still was WAY down on power and sounded like it was missing on several cylinders. I then ran her for about 60 miles way out north of Dallas toward the Oklahoma border. The more she ran, the happier she was.

By the time I got her back to the storage facility, she ran pretty good!
Still not GREAT, but pretty good for sitting for so long. I will get her out again next weekend, put more new fuel in her and keep running it. (Thing there was still a little old gas in there that made her run so bad to begin with) I just passed the 65k mark with her on the run and I am still SO IMPRESSED at the way she drives, handles, shifts, and how comfortable and rock solid the car is. I had almost forgotten as it's been so long since I drove her. I had originally thought about selling the SilverBulit and just keeping the Charlie Car, but after driving it again, I knew why I've held on to her for 13 years!!!

Took a few gratuitous pics before I stowed her away for the week.

It doesn't run right because there is no dirt on the car. That's one clean 79!

Your car is beautiful. It must be great to drive it, especially with the 5 speed. Wow.

It is a very nice car! Some have been known to load the tank with a cleaner (Berryman's?) and jump the pump relay for a good while to circulate fuel to flush the crud out into the filter, then change the filter. They do not like to stand forlong periods unused.

LOL, it will be nice to put some dirt on it if I can get it out more often!!!

JP,
The last time it was down for that long (about 13 months while I was doing new battery box, painted rear bumper cover, new fuel tank, yada yada yada) It ran the same way. I used a can of fuel cleaner I bought at the Porsche Dealer here (Think it was 44X or something like that) ran a tank with 1 can of it and all running problems went away. (It was probably a function of driving it as well!) Good idea on changing the filter, will probably do that as well. Thanks!

This is not such a good idea on a CIS car IMHO. The injectors spray constantly under these conditions.

Chuck, just get out there and drive.

1/4 tank of gas and a pint of Berryman's B-12, run it till the fuel light comes on then fill with gas. That will usually clean things out.

If there is no air flowing through the plate the injectors should not open?
After I changed my tank and lines, I ran the pump for 10 mins to leak check it, and prime everything, and it started first hit of the key, no sign of richness or flooding.

IIRC the basic setting when re-setting CIS is to set the mix screw so the injectors are just starting to flow with the air plate in the "at rest" position. Maybe I misinterpreted that to mean that the injectors would flow under the circumstances described?
