New MAF Boot (Throttle Intake Hose)

New MAF Boot (Throttle Intake Hose)
After having the MAF boot fail in my last 2 ORR events, I had to find a better solution.
I talking to both Tim M. and Dave L. about this, and I decided to enlist the help of a local
firm (mainly deals with Audis) to fabricate a new MAF boot out of silicone. They quoted
me a very good price, so I told them to go ahead. I sent them one of my old MAF boots
to use as a model, and they said it'd take about 4-6 weeks. Well it arrived yesterday.
Looks great, cost half as much as expected, and it should last longer then the stock
part.

Bill and I installed it today. Because it was more plyable then the stock part, it
was a lot easier to install. We also used some T-bolt clamps to hold it in place.
Hopefully it'll not blow off, and withstand the higher boost and air temps.
I know some of you have expressed interest in getting something better for the
MAF boot. I can't vouch for it's longevity, but I can attest that it fits, both in my
supercharged engine and on a stock engine. If you want more information, the
vendor was 034 Motorsport in Fremont, Ca. The cost was only $49.50 plus shipping.
I have no vested interest in this firm, but they came through big time. Here is a

George,
Really looks good and a great price. It would seem that with being able to use the T-bolt clamps it would be clamped with much more force.
Currently I am not having a problem, but then I really haven't been running mine with very long periods of high boost either.
Please keep us posted and let us know how it hold under boost.

This boot looks like it should do the job, reinforced with with 4 ply cord like a tire. It doesn't have all the architectural features of the stock boot, but as George and I examined it and fit it on the throttle and MAF, it was clear it didn't need them. 034 took the risk and made a bunch of them, so they are in-stock.

Looks nice George! Thanks for going out and getting this done. I was planning on replacing my 20 year old original this winter anyway, looks like I can give this a try.

Sorry about the link, fixed it in my original post. They said they had 30 in stock
when they shipped out mine. I'll know more about how it works in our application
after the first race in May.

Brian,
This part will work for a stock 928 S4, GT, or GTS. I replaced the plug with an aluminum
one (with a hose clamp) when we installed it on my car. Tim's Kit required that this port
gets plugged.

I LIKE IT!!
That looks like a real quality piece.
I just ordered one for my 5 spd since I am planning to run 20 psi boost as well as track the car occasionally.
Hard to believe Todd is running near 30 psi with the stock elbow. But then again, he never holds down the go pedal for more than 15 seconds at a time.
edit:
Just changed my order for 2 of them..... more I thought about it, I ordered one for Todd too.

$50 for a custom piece like that??? That gets the old idea wheel turning.......
Excellent work!!!!
I'm a big fan of 034 Motorsports, they make some very high quality Audi products and their prices are always competitive.
Did you forget about the 87 in the garage?

Tim,
I'm hoping this will also help with the MAF or elbow "popping off". This has
happened a lot, even with your bracket, Dave's custom clamp or extra tie wraps.
The latest episode happened while Bill and I were Sharktuning on the freeway.
Lots of smoke out the back, and totally screwed up the map in the PEM. I'll find
out if the silicone and t-bolt clamps will hold better then when we start Sharktuning
again.
