Lightbulb Ring Trip Fri 8th May to Mon 11 May 2009

Some friends and I are planning a trip to the Ring this May, most of us have only been a couple of times before. We have chosen the date carefully, as it the the weekend after the busy Bank Holiday, and includes one full weekday when it should be reasonably quiet.

Most of us are staying at the Dorint for three nights, rooms are €81 pppn (based on two sharing). There is much cheaper accommodation available but we love the trackside view, the swimming pool/sauna/steam room, and the huge buffet breakfast, not to mention the secure underground car park. Some others are staying at Sliders for half the price.

For general info Ben Lovejoy site is invaluable

These are the bookings we are making:

Norfolk Line Ferry
Dover to Dunkirque Fri 8th 8pm - £24
Dunkique to Dover Mon 11th 23:58 - £17
There's also a 10pm sailing on Monday assuming we arrived at the ferry in time

Dorint Hotel
Arrival: 08.05.2008
Departure: 11.05.2008
Rooms: 01 Double Room Track Side, with balcony
Price: 161 EUR per room / night incl. breakfast
Cancellation Policy: A cancellation free of charge is possible till 3 days prior to the arrival date.
Alternative Price: 142 EUR per room / night incl. breakfast
Cancellation Policy: No refunds.

Please contact me if you are interested, we are looking for drivers and passengers. Apart from the ferry and hotel costs, the only additional expenses are fuel (400 miles each way), food (hotel room includes huge buffet breakfast), and Ring tickets (€21 a go).
The trackside rooms mean you get a perfect view of events on the F1 circuit, which is separate from the Nordshleife (track commonly known as the Ring).

It really is worth every penny, so give it some serious thought!

If anyone in your group would like some instruction, get in touch.

A bit of tuition can make a huge difference, and is actually quite cost effective.

One way or the other, hope to see you there.

Thanks Ed, we were thinking about one of your Alfa 75s, so we'll probably pop in for a chat.

Yes thanks, I had originally thought Monday was a full day, but discovered the 1pm start when we had our planning meeting last week. We've also changed our plans so we leave London Friday midnight to arrive at the Dorint mid morning. Last year they let us check in early so we could get some sleep before heading out to the Ring late afternoon. That way we keep our costs down with only 2 nights accommodation.

We're actually going on the exactly the same weekend as last year, and the Public days and timings seem to be the same as well.

Don't count on the Saturday opening at 17:30. Quite often the carnage is such that the broken cars and debris are not cleared in time after the VLN race.

And the queues are pretty insane too...

As usual, Porsche Club Finland members will go to the Ring at least once a year. This year first trip is planned at weekend between May and June. There is bike competition at new track on Sunday but old track should be open all days including entire Monday starting from 8 AM. I hope to have automatic GTS ready by then with stroker engine in it. Like in many previous years, we'll be staying at http://www.am-tiergarten.de/en/home/. I think also some Porsche Club Estonia members are going at same weekend.

Is there anything 928 related going on in Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium or Netherlands between Friday 28th of May and Tuesday 2nd of June? There might be more than one 928 in PCF trip and if there is some close by 928 meeting at same time we might be able to attend.

That was me. Are you the Irish fellow? I'll never forget the Dutch fellow executing the 720 over Swedenkreuz!

Did the Radical crash behind us at Hohenrain?

That was impressive as well...

We changed our dates to the following weekend and all went well. Good weather, good times, and we even got a ride in the Ring Taxi, well worth 200euros between three.

Yep That's me. Still have the GT here in Luxembourg, just bringing it out of a long (2 year) sleep, plenty work to do.
Good to hear you're still around and hope to meet you there sometime soon again.

You are Kevin? With the 1990 GT?

Were you also in a longer than 2 year sleep?

Euro 928 seems to have died - unless you know better?

Look forward to seeing the GT in action again

Cheers

Marton
