Default Coolant color

Hello All,

I read in a recent thread that someone had the wrong color coolant, green. I am in a bit of a panic, last May I had my Timing belt/water Pump and new thermostat/coolant changed and discovered green coolant was used, should I change it asap or can it wait til it warms up outside?

The mechanic said it was Audi coolant Part # ZVW237105 so I went with it not knowing better.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I have noticed a leak and figured it must be the metal contracting in this bitter cold, -28C the other night.

Thanks,

Drew.

LOL

dont worry, anything used in an aluminum block will e fine, last i checked Audi was a huge champion of aluminum so i think your more then safe.

There is no (to my knowledge) set recipe of what makes a coolant orange, or green, or blue, its just coloring.

RELAX, your fine

for the leak its quite possible that either a hose clamp is loose or your Thermostat seal O ring is leaking, other wise the water bridge has to come out

BTW, there's absolutely nothing wrong with green coolant. That's what I've used for 9 years.

That color is actually blue...or it will dry blue, if you got the ZVW coolant. I've used the ZVW coolant, for years. Works great. Also leaves really nice blue trails...to find the water leaks. The blue trail rinses off with water.

I use the Audi/Vw Coolant as well, but mine is pink. Don't have the Type Number though. I wonder what the difference is between the Blue/Green and pink is?

Blue coolant is faster than green coolant.

Why they make coolant with the same tints as all those sports drinks out there baffles me.

It looks like the leak is at the large o-ring in centre of coolant bridge. Fixing that would require removal of the bridge. At the same time you can replace the two small gaskets at each side of the bridge.
