Stan,

What does the above pic have to do with the ZR1?

no idea who Jim Mero is, but i have to think they could have gotten an even better time had they hired Sabine or Walter Rohrl to do the driving.

EDIT: No doubt the time could have been better, Jim Mero is listed as an "engineer", obviously not a professional racer there as you can tell by the footage. Damn, i bet they could take off 15 seconds or more with a proper driver.

Damn, you're a tough audience, Ryan. Mero might be an amatuer when it comes road course racing, but he did manage to beat a monster Nissan GT-R and a Porsche GT2 to set a new track record for a production car. What he lacks in experience, he makes up for with "big ones".

Great video, thanx Stan.

Sweet!
That car has some serious power on tap for a production car, too bad the price is so damn high I'll never have one.
on the other hand I can afford to keep my shark tricked out and send my first born to college for a little less than the ZR1!
Not sure what to do about her little sister though...lol

Very cool. I love that last stretch where he tops out...then zips through the last corner. Fast car and i know the Caddy with the same motor is no slouch either around there!

One day when i win the lottery, i want to purchase a large chunk of land out west and reproduce that track foot for foot..corner for corner..elevation for elevation...so more can enjoy it and understand what a tough circuit it is.

It looks tough. Many corners. Many bumps. Broken pavement.

Charley,

The time is better because the car is faster, simple as that. Now just imagine had they put a proper racing driver in the car?

I wonder if it was running just some cheap stock tires cause it sure squealed like a pig, i dont know what tires Chevy spec's for the ZR1 but i think if you throw in some R compound Michelins and an actual professional race car driver you would take off 15-20 seconds off that time.

Like Nissan did with the GTR?

The Viper ACR posted a 7.22.1 after this run (non factory effort).
http://www.motortrend.com/av/feature...deo/index.html

So GM sent the ZR1 back out with Jan Magnussen who posted a 7.22.4

GM claims the run was on 100% stock tires.

The tires seemed to be falling off a lot toward the end, and he was over cooking it a little in the first few miles but over all I thought he made a hell of a run for a car and track he hadn't spent a lot of time with.

The guy was pretty sloppy, but fast!!

Compare the video to someone that knows what they are doing, and watch the difference.
Hans stuck in a BWM Z3 racer he is 6 seconds ahead of the vet about 2min mark, and 17 seconds ahead near the end when they reach the stadium.
Still, the Vet is MOVING, for sure!

BMW video start at 2:20 seconds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFG6w...eature=related

vet video start at :20
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-9988138-1.html

Then do a 6:54( Vet video), 8:38 (Z3 video) comparison at the bridge before the last straigth and watch the vet walk away. by 2 seconds at the end, only to have one second before the vet has to turn in.

The net loss to the z3 is about 15 seconds over an equal racing distance.

THANK YOU!

Mero did what 7:36, I said now imagine if they had a proper driver.....

Jan Magnussen (Former F1 racer) did it in 7:22 beating the time by 14 seconds just as i had suggested

Cheers

Charley,

I have do disagree, i have to imagine (now i dont know if this is true or not but just an assumption) That this footage is of an ENGINEER who helped develop the car. I think he was there to develop the car on that track, so I am sure he has allot more miles on the Nordschleife AND more miles in that car then your suggesting. I think he is there for no reason other then to develop that car on that track.

I'm sure he has been round there a bunch and should (assuming he is developing the car) know that car like the back of his hand.

POINT IS.......THATS A SERIOUS CAR ! (AND IT LOOKS THE **** IN GREY!)
