There has been some debate lately about what the socal928 crowd should do now that msn is getting rid of its groups feature where the current message board is hosted.

I registered socal928.com shortly after buying my car and before I even knew that there was such a thing as the msn group. When I found out about the msn closure I wanted to step up and do something for the local community so I installed some message board software and started talking to people that have been around for a while and to gauge interest.

After talking to Dr. Bob and some of the other locals it was mentioned that something a little more comprehensive than just a message board for locals would be a good idea. With this in mind I’ve loaded a fairly complete content management system so that each user is able to have some information about themselves and store photos in addition to the message board. I’m also looking at implementing blogging software if there is demand, but this could be a little way down the road.

With that in mind, I’d like to invite everyone over to www.socal928.com to take a look around and let me know what you think. Everyone is welcome, regardless of geographical location but the content of the board is primarily geared towards the SoCal crowd. The message board is not meant to compete with any of the current technical forums, but is more of a social and organizational tool for locals.

Thanks for doing this, I will definitely check it out. I didn't participate much with the MSN board because MSN constantly drove me nuts with issues.

The new site doesn't recognise the username/password I set up on the beta. Are you going to migrate the bata users or should I create another account on the new site?


Update: Created a new user & profile. Works OK. Updated Renn sig line with pointer to new site URL

Thanks for the kind words and for signing up. As Dr. Bob I was not able to migrate the beta board users to the new system so if you've signed up before you'll need to re-register.

As for the front page photo, I'll gladly add new photos or even set up some sort of rotating display, just upload the photo to your gallery page after you join and let me know or email it to me at socal928@gmail.com . Feel free to watermark it if you want credit or let me know if you need help with that and I'll take care of it.

Be sure to let me know if you notice any problems or errors.
