<<That is that Mason Fine guy who posts here sometimes as "surfridermason". He posts on Pelican and Reutter as Chesirugaree or some such nonesense. This is his M.O. I was high bidder on a late model 5 speed trans. w/ LSD one time. It was a no reserve auction and he pulled the auction because he didn't feel that the price was high enough. He is not someone I will ever do business with again. He likes to bad mouth the other 928 vendors. Poor form in my opinion.>>

<<If people have a good experience it's OK to post it but not if the experience is bad? Sorry, that's not the way it works.>>

Fabio,

From what I understand, Mason had a local buyer for the transmission willing to pay much more than the what the highest bid on ebay was. So he canceled the bids and ended the auction early (before it was over). Happens all the time on ebay and is not against ebay rules, whatsoever. I know it sucks when it happens as it has happened to me, too. But the seller does have the right. What would you have done? Sold it for less money out of principal? I doubt it. You or anyone else would have done the same thing Mason did. However, if I was the seller, I would have offered it to the high bidder for what the local buyer was willing to pay, out of courtesy.

You've been bad mouthing Mason on this forum every chance you could get since then. So things didn't go your way, that's a shame, but your diatribe against him goes beyond good taste and reason. You've been insulting and vindictive. Is this what this forum is all about? I thought it was suppose to be about owning, driving and working on Porsche 928's?. This is the reason I've yet to join Rennlist as a member.

And as far as Mason bad mouthing the other vendors, that's B.S. He made a general statement in his auctions about "being a little better than the other guys". That's standard sales talk used in just about every business on the planet Earth. He never mentioned a single vendor by name. I don't hear Mark Anderson or Roger complaining about him, only you.

I do not think you have any right to besmirch Mason's business practices or character as you have done. I'm not saying he, or anyone is perfect, but because of one incident, you feel it gives you the right to trash the guy. I think that says more about you then him.

Joe

Joe, since you seem to be the President of the Mason fan club and follow all of his threads so intently, I'm sure you would see that I am not the only one who has made mention of him bad mouthing other vendors. There are many examples by members of the community who are held in high regard that have gotten that impression from his posts.

I am just an individual who is sharing my personal experience with this seller. It wasn't a good one. Others have had a less than satisfactory experience and some have had good experiences. Based on my experience, I choose not to do business with him. You obviously feel differently. Thats OK. Everyone can make their own choices when it comes to this matter. I did not trash him, I just stated my experience while trying to do business with him.

If Mason is serious about getting into this business, I wish him well. I hope he has learned a little about the expectations of his customer base and will adapt accordingly.

As for the LSD transmission, he didn't sell it locally. At least not during the Ebay auction. Here is the thread, judge for yourself. Hopefully he won't edit any more of his posts. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...?highlight=lsd

Mason, I'm done. There are enough other customers out there who can convey their experiences with you good, bad or otherwise. If you want to be in this business you have a hard act to follow. The established 928 vendors take care of their customers very well. You will have to do the same if you want to make a mark. Good luck.

Here are Surfrider's own words regarding that auction at the time he was selling it and promoting it "NO RESERVE": "the thing is for sale, if someone wants to pay the money I want for it , I shall sell, if they don't , I shall not. How much more elementary does it get? Do you want it? Why do you want to know what I'm thinking? The thing is for sale, if you want it, make me an offer, if you don't want it, please tell someone you know who does....."

Whether he really did have another bidder, he made it clear in that thread that he would claim he did if the bid didn't reach his "secret" reserve. Do a search for "5 Speed Tranny Surfridermason" and you can read the entire thread and inform yourself.

Thats OVER NOW.
I think this statement is the obvious B.S.. Perhaps Mr. Fine would like to tell us who he refers to here. It's a small community, not too many candidates.

Whatever price he had in mind is his perogative. He's the one who owned it. Reserve or no reserve, everyone who sells something has a figure he needs to get.
All your assertions are pure conjecture and speculation. Based on your reasoning, one could just as well assert that his "secret price" was one dollar more then the current highest bid and he had a local buyer willing to pay the extra dollar. I doubt that was the case and would assume that given the rarity and desirablity of a LSD five speed that he did indeed find a local buyer willing to pay his price. This sounds a lot more plusible then him just not selling it to Fabio. I would say that Mason's fault lay in being too forthright and honest in sharing his thoughts. I do not think it ever was his intention to start such a controversy over a car part.

Well This thread answers why he hasn't answered one of my emails to him....I won a neg bat cable and was going to buy about 5-10 more of his items so I posed the question in an email if he combined shipping on more than one item as I had won one of them already. After 4 emails to him he has never responded....I check my spam filters but not one reply. So it seems I should just pay for this item...get and forget about ever bidding or buying anything else from him.......Not a way to do business, or earn repeat buyers at all! Glad I decided to catch up on the threads today! HAPPY NEW YEARS ALL!!

This thread is akin to listening to a number of whining old women. Where is the financial harm in all of this? Fabio's pissed he didn't get to "steal" a transmission worth much more than bid, and we have a pair of license plate lamps that weren't in the greatest of shape.

"It's all about trust, I think." Exactly, compare this to the D....K situation and what do we really have here? At worst you have a young enterprising auto enthusiast looking to start a business, offering decent prices, who in trying to establish his business and identity has made a few very minor stumbles. Quite possibly his biggest mistake is a somewhat confrontational internet persona that is not born out in face to face meetings.
