Well I thought it was great of Surfrider to answer me back here, yes maybe a PM would have been better....but he hasn't tried to sell me anything here. After reading the thread I thought god here we have another bum.....but since I left my last reply....he responded to me and others with what seems like a reasonable excuse and I will go with that...finish my transaction with his ebay sale. I am glad he was able to respond here to me...since the ebay wasn't. I don't feel he was trying to sell here....but thats just my 2 cents. I'm just very glad to have rennlist here to use and the members to help and support.

I bought some door felts from him and he sent them quickly and they were in great shape...

I'm with some of the others on this one. I didn't see him trying to sell anything. The ban may have been a bit excessive.

Quick ship on the ebay '82 clock.... Dirty, I'll need to do a lot of cleanup, but otherwise fine. +1 for this guy.

It will go into my '87 as a custom install. I got a replacement console from 928intl so I will go well.

This is not true, I am not Mason Fine, though he is a friend and I've bought parts from him. Obviously, I'm not banned as I am posting now. Do not be mislead by a few individuals here who might try to tell you differently, or otherwise try to ruin my reputation on this site. To quote Mark Twain, "The news of my death has been greatly exaggerated"

Are you a business partner? I gathered that from your posts elsewhere, but maybe I missed something. Doesn't matter, actually.

Most of us here operate entire or parts of businesses and have, in many cases 25 or more years experience managing suppliers and supply situations. We understand the value of having a supply base. Trust is a key criteria. Business ethics are critical to earning trust. A supplier needs to get that piece of the equation right.

Its just as important to me, maybe more-so, figuring out which car chopper to utilize, as figuring out where to buy tank trucks of food ingredients or aircraft parts or electronics.

A lot of red and yellow flags are flying.

I'll tell you what my purchasing agents tell all suppliers. I want to hear that a business ethically acquires its stock, manages to the letter of state and local law, is responsive and honest. Tell and show me those things about the business you are advocating; I am closer to being on-board.

But engage in sophmoric rhetoric about personal reputations and get into peeing contests with customers ---I am out. Just generalizing here. It applies to all suppliers, incorporated, unincorporated, or the individual guy selling paper clips.

Greetings Landseer,

No, I am not Mason's business partner, just a customer and fellow 928 enthusiast friend. I am a Real Estate investor in the city of Philadelphia. My brother and I own and manage rental properties for the past 20 years. If I told you how many properties we own, you'd probably think I was making it up. Not that I'm Donald Trump or anything. It really doesn't matter. Buying investment properties can be way more addicting then collecting 928's. And a lot more expensive. I don't know how we keep up with dealing with all the issues of property management, but we do and keep our tenants happy.

I'm not saying to buy from Mason. All I ever said was my dealings with him were good.

Mason, in the past, ran into problems when he offered a '85 928 LSD trans for sale on ebay and then pulled the auction and trans out from under a fellow Rennlist member. He told me a local buyer offered him much more than the best offer on ebay, so he took it. He had about 10k invested in this particular car he was parting out and would have suffered a big financial hit if bidding did not get any higher on the auction (this is all according to him). He could have handled this situation in a much better way had he not got into a thread back then about really not wanting to part out the car, that though it was a No Reserve auction, he had a "reserve figure" in his head, that he was going to pull the auction if the price didn't go up, etc... All these things, he should have kept to himself. Other members jumped all over him about it. He should have put in a reserve when he auctioned it, but didn't. Chalk it up to immaturity, inexperience with ebay, the worry of financial loss, the expectation of fellow members understanding his reasoning (they didn't), or greed. I don't know. So he f'ed up plain and simple. But then haven't we all from time to time? Since then, and I only go on because:

1. Mason is banned and can't post messages because he replied on-site, in this thread, to a few people for won items from him on ebay and were not able to e-mail him or otherwise get a hold him through ebay's auction site. While he wasn't actually trying to sell anything to anybody, the fact that the messages were 928 business related got him banned for the 2nd time. He should have been thinking better and contacted those individuals though a PM. I think the banning was a little harsh, but I have no right to disagree as I am not a member yet and not in the moderator's shoes.
2. While I think he's an O.K. guy, I don't think he always expresses himself very well, gets his feeling hurt by all the negative comments and reacts sometimes with negative comments himself as a result. This hurts him in the end. I feel he's improve quite a bit since then. Mason -are you reading this?
3. While I hate to be in this position, I'd much rather stay on the sidelines and not become a target of the "I Hate Mason" club, I believe in the Christian principal of turning the other cheek. I guess I'm a sucker for the underdog.
4. I have no vested interest in the outcome, but hope we can all reach a friendly agreement and go back to 928 related discussion.

Since then, Mason decided to buy more cars and part them out. He does it because he loves the 928. He wants to be involved in the hobby, improve his knowledge of the car, wants to earn a living as a vehicle dismantler. He wants to provide for his family and employees. His family has been in the autoparts business for many years in Phila. He can most certainly turn a wrench and has worked on both my '83 928S and my '89 928S4. He moved from his garage at home into a 11,000 Sq. ft shop to increase his business. He's run over 600 auctions on ebay since then and has a very good feedback rating. He sells a modest amount of parts, many not to members of this forum, but some, like myself here on the list have been satisfied with his service. I don't think he will ever compete with the Big 3. Compared to their business, he is no threat at all. He tells me that selling used parts is just an end to a means. I believe he plans eventually to move into another area of 928 sales, accessories.

I've been to his house, met his wife and am friendly with his two German Shepard's, Samson and Delilah. He is a devoted husband, son and good friend to many. He is also a bit wild, young, free spirited, loyal to his friends, and enthusiastic about the 928 (And Porsche's in general. He also owns a 930 Turbo in addition to his '86.5 928S).

I've probably told you all way more than Mason would ever say in his own defense, or about himself personally. This is pretty much all I can tell you about him in the year or so that I've known him. It is based on my own personal interaction with him.

To Fabio421, I have no ill will towards you. you've explained your thoughts well. I apologize if I said anything you took offence to. If Mason had talked way back when in private and explained his intention to stop the Trans auction and why, this whole thing probably would have ended then and there. Maybe you both could have worked something out.

To Landseer,

The rhetoric about personal reputations I was referring to was my own. It was inferred, incorrectly, that I was banned from Rennlist for being someone I am not. Mason, aside, I take my reputation very, very seriously. I pay my taxes, manage to the letter of every damn state and local law, and pay a lot in property tax and insurance every year. I consider my reputation beyond reproach. That's all I have to say on this matter.

Best regards,

Joe

I'll pick my suppliers by my perception of their professionalism.

I heavily weight that decision on the tone and professionalism of the suppliers, that is, their own words, as they deal with the situations that they face. I've read almost every single 928 related post on two bulletin boards, daily, for over a year, and now a third. There are a lot of data points. They make your defense case weak.

Joe, I don't know you, but if you are in the position to mentor potential supplier, let them know I want to know the cars are properly acquired, regulations and rules are followed (for breaking cars and for advertising), only good parts are sold and the supplier knows how to conduct a transaction. Those things would make a good business introduction.

Respectfully,

Guys,

For some reason, it appeared that surfridermason and 928 is my favorite time of day had the same IP address. This resulted in 928 is etc being banned. Further investigation (five minutes later) revealed that they were not one and the same and the ban was lifted and my post deleted.
So to sum - user "928 is my favorite time of day" is NOT surfridermason, is not banned and I apologise for the glitch.

Best,

Have we reached that point where I post that really disturbing picture of the muscle men hugging each other?

OT
No, we have not reached that point!!
This is nowhere NEAR deserving of that level of punishment.

And ya know, even if you had one of female body builders hugging, I don't think we need that either. But I might just take a peek, you know, IF you happen to have one of those????
