Accusump is an idea...... as for the "no issue" I would say my 1st ever spin off the track was a "slight" issue!!

Stan
Thats a good idea....the oil looked great when I checked it at the end of the day....but I will try the cardboard idea!!

Nice going. Looks like a fun first run. They don't look like RA1s to me? Am I missing something? You don't mean BFG R1s do you? You got 335 stuffed under there? That's big.

The holbert machine had its first day in a RACE, no issues and a high placing

These cars are amazing. if you set them up like many of us have done front the start, this is no surprise.

The fuel thing is normal for a full tank. I have never run more than 11 gallons on the track. usually, run a little under a quarter tank to not have the 1.5 G caused leaking out the gas cap. (thats where it is coming from)

nice job Brian! Looks like fun.

BTW, dont follow paul any more!

I ran the 335 RA1s with speedGT. they were even tighter than my 305s are now, but still didnt rub! Brian has the fender flares in the rear so there is no issue. up front, he is rubbing with the 305s as I did when i gave that a shot at thunderhill a few weeks ago, but since then, i have moved the fenders out a bit.

NCRC willl be a great event in Feburary! I think its the 17th??? more cars , but lots more fun. Plus, we can ride in each others cars.

I'll see if i can make it.

Anyone in the area that is thinking about a great track day, with free instruction if wanted, should attend. $100 for the day!! you cant beat it.

Friday the 13th.....omminous huh....seems like an appropriate day for the Black Widow to fly around the track!!! Kibort, Charley, Paul and I will be there.....who else??

The tires are Toyo RA1's.....just seriously shaved+used.....almost corded on the rear 335's on the inside...the 305's still have some life left..

Brian, Congrats on Black Widow's track debut. Are you sure mud was the only thing you had to cleanup after that spin I think that if I take a look at that new suit and seat they will now have that "broken in"look to them.

+1

Check the gas cap to see if it has the proper gasket and it is installed correctly.
My 86.5 used to spill gas and installing the gasket fixed it even with full tank at the track

congrats on the good run. Were you hanging back from the vette? Seemed like you should have over taken him. What was the speed? Was that a power steering whine I heard? Looks like a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!

At the begininng of the video I let up on the main straight to let him pass....my goal was just to follow him to see the differences between the two cars....as expected he has far more power, especially uphill....a good example is at about 3:55....I'm following up the hill after turn 8...in 4th gear maybe 4000rpm...as expected he pulls away up the hill....then on the next lap at about 6:23 I drop to 3rd since we took the corner slower this time and he still pulls away, but not as much since my RPM's were far higher....turn 8 should be a 4th gear corner...

The largest differences between the cars was in handling....I had quite a bit more grip due to the larger R compund tires and 350lbs less weight...this is very evident in turn 2 at about 5:20....I took the turn a bit harder too see how much more speed I could carry through the turn....

The noise you are hearing is the front tires rubbing BAD....I have 305/35-18's mounted on 10" rims that rub horribly in the front....my new front tires will be 295 or 285 to decrease the rubbing

My grip was way down on the 'Vette from the last time I ran THill, when the temps were in the 80's. I was running street Goodyear run flats that are worn down to the bars on the rear. In 40 degree temps on a dirty track, it was like driving on ice. I was fish tailing taking corners at .8 G's where I was over 1.1 G's in warmer weather on the same tires.

I definitely need to spring for a set of track shoes. That made a huge difference when I drove my GTS at Thill a few years ago with street tires and then switched to a stock '83 S with R compound tires. The GTS felt like a brick on the track and really wasn't even fun to drive. The S felt like a go cart, even though it was down over 120 hp from the GTS and was a blast on the track. The right tires make a huge difference.

Thanks for the video, Brian and thanks for the invite to yesterday's track day. I'm glad I didn't have an off track excursion while you were following ME! Awesome day, despite the temps. Only 13 cars in our run group, so it was almost like a private track day.

I would definitely check your vent hose on the fuel tank. When I was behind you, the smell of gas was STRONG when your tank was full. There was no gas escaping from the cap, no gas around your sending unit on top of the tank, and no gas we could see under the hood. That leaves the vent hose as the likely culprit.

That was a GREAT track day.....it was fun following you around....sorry about the gas fumes..but I gotta distract you and your 7.0L one way or another!!! :>) Fixing that is #1 on the list now!

Traction was defintely limited out there...(a dirt sandwich comes to mind) but the near lack of traffic made up for it! You really missed out on the final 1 hour open run group....I was out there for around 30 minutes straight and only passed 3 cars (1 Civic twice)....that was sweet....I kept looking at the tower for a checkered flag that never came....I started getting tired so I brought it in for the day....I was looking around the track and honestly think there was only 4 cars out there! I guess all the volvos had to go pick up the kids from soccer practice? the bummer is my camera got stupid...so I don't have any video...
