Do you guys really have problems stopping that necessitate this upgrade? I would just upgrade to these because they look nicer than my stock OB's now that I have the carrera wheels.

I said this before too.....for the early cars..by all means upgrade to the S4 set if you can..and if you are running S4's..put in a set of good pads..and for those looking for bling...go for the big reds

Nope..you can get a bracket and use older spindles (prior to 81 I think) to fit them..or do the S4 suspension upgrade.. That (suspension) is a direct bolt on...
Just saw you had a 81..so get the adapter and the S4 brakes and you are good to go..

spacers and 965 rotors give the S4 GTS performance and cross drilled rotors. all you need is a set of simple spacers! (965 rotors are directly interchangable with GTS smooth rotors)

Yes there is but to do it right it gets more complicated as S4 fronts are designed for 4mm thicker disk than size rear disks are. Its possible do take that off from caliper halfs mounting surface or just change pads more often so that pistons can not come out too far. Adapter is needed too.

I am in the process of putting "Big Reds" on the rear of my GTS.
Jim M already has this upgrade and apart from the obvious BLING factor they helped stop his car very well.
I was following him at circa (could be way off 8>) ) 25% off 200 and the stopping power when he got a radar blip was awesome.
For me its the BLING factor and because I can.
One of my customers thinks the same and is also doing the same upgrade.

As far as reds vs. Blacks, the black calipers are just a clear coat over the black anodizing of the caliper. The reds are red paint over the normal black anodized aluminum. I don't know if there is a clear coat over the red paint. Just fyi.

Wow so much disinformation.
SeaCay was spot on as the ad reads now, wasn't around for the beginning of the thread to comment on original posting. These are exactly what the description reads now. They are the Big/little reds from a 94 964 turbo 3.6. The 94 was the first to receive the red painted big brembo caliper up front using a smaller little red in the rear the part numbers for the fronts are 993 numbers but were used on the 94 964T first using a 5mm different offset than the 993TT used. Otherwise there is no difference in the fronts. The 928GTS first used these brakes as big blacks and same offset as used on the 94 turbo. These could also be special ordered in black for the 94 turbo as an option. The GTS is just mounted trailing edge vs leading edge as the turbo is set up and you can change the bleeders and lines to make them work on either car.
Both blacks and reds are painted and none of these brakes were anodized. Also the lines are always painted. Where anodizing came from I have no idea. As far as using the medium S4's from the rear of a 993TT on your GTS I believe it will cause the loss of the rear handbrake as it does on the 964 turbo and you will gain a larger rotor but the caliper piston size is reduced to 28/28 mm with the larger 132 x 48mm pad vs the little reds which use a 34/30 mm pistons and a smaller 98 x 44 mm pad. Clamping force is about the same and should result in similar stopping power but would add unsprung weight.
For street use these IMO are better than the 993TT brakes.
