My understanding is that what you are calling big blacks are in fact just S4 brakes...928 big blacks (from the GTS) are the same as big reds except color obviously and set up to be trailing rather than leading..(bleed valves are on wrong end)..

Sean the part number is wrong and they look to be painted red and poorly at that.
On top of that there's no such thing as big red rear calipers; the S4 through GT and GTS all use the same rear brake calipers.
The S4/GT front calipers are same.
The GTS caliper is physicaly bigger and has bigger pistons and AFAIK they were black. The same caliper in red is the exact same caliper only 'they' charge ~$200 for the special paint job.

Big Blacks are 928 351 423 03 & 928 351 424 03
Big Reds are 993 352 425 10 & 993 352 426 10
The only difference is - one is red and the other black.
Blacks are about $100 cheaper than the reds

Now that I have the carrera rims I'm going to go at least to S4's because they look nicer. I love the white Porsche on Red by the way.

How did you mount the S4 calipers in the rear, and were you able to use the standard brake discs for that?

I haven't done it, but others have. I think the mounting point on the S4 brake needs to be modified and 993 rotors use..or something like that.. I'm sure others who have done it will chime in. Personally, i don't see the need for the Big reds and S4's on the back. The stock S4 brakes with a good set of pads does wonders. Just going from stock metal master pads to hawk Ht-10s on my old S4 at the track was phenomenal.

The S4 front caliper WILL NOT fit on the rear of any 928 without some sort of adapter, none of which I am aware is commercially available. There have been members here who have made or had made adapters as custom parts, but AFAIK none are commercially available.
Sean, in Porsche speak, only the 993TT had "Big Reds" the 964 turbo had different size pistons and 86 mm sq pad area VS 112 mm sq of the 993TT or GTS front brake pad area.

Yep, I just did a search and it's the 993 turbo rear brakes (which are similar in size to the S4 fronts) that are slightly machined and uses the 993 rear rotor that one uses to do the "Devek" big brake upgrade along with the big reds up front...
