For specific questions, contact Karl Poeltl @ Racer's Edge (www.racersedge-inc.com). Karl is the exclusive distributor in North America. He has used Woesnner pistons for a 944 S2 build we great results and has gotten great feedback from engine builders that are using the Woesnner pistons. They are utilized by a number of race teams in Europe and have a stellar reputation.

Thats good to know if someone ever finds 120mm cylinder tower 928 block.

In what kind of steps those rings are available? I think 103mm would be fairly safe option for custom 928 piston in regards to what kind of blocks are easily available. But there might be need to fix bores later on and thus for example 103.5mm would be better backup plan than 104mm.

That ring sizes are available? BMW's Alusil engines all have under 100mm pistons AFAIK so no help from there.
Please tell me more. What is different about the piston rings used in an Alusil block?

Thanks

I think Chris has answered some good specific questions for us on here and on the 951 board. Chris said he can get them, so I posted about it for my friends here at the 928 board.

Thats OK, I worked with Karl from the begining with Wossner. It shoudl be the same price from Karl or myself. I can add a little extra expertise in the custom stuff...

Lots of info about Alusil in these:
http://www.aera.org/ep/downloads/ep4/EP10-2008_18.pdf
http://www.aera.org/ep/downloads/ep2...2008_20-26.pdf

From first document:

What eventually became clear was that piston skirts had to be coated and ring faces should be barrel shaped if Alusil cylinder bores are to be retained as a wear surface.

Further, barrel shaped ring faces were used to glide across correctly honed and etched silicon particles without dislodging them. Beveled ring faces utilize a scraping action which may be detrimental to an Alusil wear surface. Exercise caution when selecting a suitable ring pack for use in Alusil bores.

Further, many different ring materials are used for Nikasil® and Alusil but some of the better ones are Gas Nitrided, Ion Nitrided or titanium coated tool steel. There appears to be some consensus that using a barrel shaped ring for either Nikasil® or Alusil cylinder bores works best. However, always go with the coating or cylinder alloy manufacturer’s recommendation for a suitable ring pack.

The stock ring faces are NOT barrel shaped. They are straight. BUT the top ring of the 951 ring pack is chrome faced and round looking.
