New Porsche museum
Looks like 928 is much more visible in new museum which opens at end of January. Mark says there is three 928's there. This might be one.

Hi Errka,
Ask Mark if they pulled out the 1984 Daytona racer they had stuffed in the back of their warehouse yet. The one that was supposedly destroyed according to urban legend and as reported in an Excellence article a few years ago.
I asked the Porsche musuem director at the Daytona Rennsport Reunion III and he said they were going to pull it out soon. Now that would be some 928 history...
Cheers,
Constantine

There is already an all aluminium 928 displayed at the Leipzig museum.
The red car is the picture from the 928 that was displayed in Geneva 1977.
I hope the Mercedes G from the 1986 Paris-Dakar will also be shown. It has a 928 engine, to follow the 959s in the desert.

Hi Samuel,
There has always been the thought the 1984 Daytona 928 racer was all aluminum. After some research and discussion with the drivers and the late Bob Snodgrass, I question that fact. I believe the 1984 Daytona racer had the regular steel body with the standard aluminum parts, hood, front fenders and doors which gave speculation the whole car was aluminum.
Can't wait to find out for sure whenever they drag it out of hiding.

Mark said there was an all alumunium 928 something...... it had 911 style front suspension , alloy engine support many many "unusual" features. The tour guide had little to say about it but was impressed that Mark noted some of the subtle differences.... stated they made a lot of design studies often years before they produce the car ! The 4 door Birthday car 928 is displayed as well.

Hi Samuel,
The late Bob Snodgrass was the head of Brumos and was the one who commissioned Porsche to send him the 928 to race in the 1984 24 hours of Daytona. He also thought the car to be all aluminum. Can't wait to find out for sure!

I did not have a magnet with me and as I stated in the other post I was not allowed to take any pictures but the car sure looked all aluminum and it was a street car with a complete interior. One of the other cars on display was a 95 GTS 5sp with no sunroof (vin of wpozzz93zss800283). The 4 door 928 did not have a vin plate that I could see. The reason I got in was my friend is a friend of the museum curriator so I will see if I can contact him and ask a few queastions. I guess the old museum held 35 cars and the new one holds 85 but they have 400 in the hidden warehouse which they will rotate from.

Tell me more about the 4-door. Is it the amethyst colored one by ASC? I'd really like to kearn more about the story behind it. There has been some conflicting information, and I never got to go to Langenburg where it was last displalyed.

Strangely, if the factory has it in its collection, it is probably owned by them. And somebody there must have put the miles on it. However, Ferry's ex-chauffeur and Porsche fleet manager tells me there was never a such vehicle registered to the company, otherwise he would have known. I have no -reason not to trust this man, who I have personally known for more than 20 years now...

I asked Jim about this yesterday, do you think this could be "the last" 928 to come off the line?
What color combo was this car?
