Safety issue need advice on fuel take protection.
I was poking around my 82 with the Gts fiberglass kit and found something startling. There are no shocks for the bumpers which exposes my fuel tank in a read end collision. I need to either purchase a new set or find a damaged set to put in place. My other option is to weld up some type of protection bar. Any feedback on this would be helpful, or a referral to find some used shocks or options.

the chassis should provide protection however the rear aluminum bar mounted on the shocks will definitly add more protection.
The Euros dont have shocks on the aluminum bumper, just standoffs that will crush.
With these mods on the car its possible the old shocks were collapsed and they were just left off as no one will notice, and possibly other parts were also damaged check the frame rails for buckles

There is no visible damage to the car just a choice the builder made. It may have something to do with fitment or assembly decisions. I would feel a lot better to have something in place, my wife will be driving this car can't lose her for sure.

I have 2 used shocks they are collapsed though, and even with a BFH and pry bar they wont move to the open position. The shocks are one time use anyway.
IIRC 928 International has them and you might even get a set for half price (not sure about that though), maybe Jim will make you an offer

I will give them to you, but like i said they are collapsed so they have been squished not really offering any protection just another way for you to crumple the frame rails if they get hit. IIRC, Jim B @ 928 International was selling used for 50. 00 a piece so at half price you have a good used set for 50.00 plus shipping
Another thing is if you try to bolt anything to the compressed bumper/shock assembly it will pull the body work into the rear of the car and deform the bumper

the shocks attach to the chassis but the aluminum bumper has attach brackets for the bumperetts see the 2 black things sticking out from my picture. If you attach the bumper cover to the aluminum and the shocks are not in the extended position then the bumper cover gets pulled into the rear of the chassis if you use collapsed shocks

I have the complete set up you are looking for (by your description).
if you have nothing under the rear bumper cover (which is possible--usually done with race cars--I would not), then you need the following parts:
rear bumper shocks
aluminum rear bumper
bumperettes (optional---many Euro's didn't have these, all US cars did)
PM me if you're interested and we'll discuss price and shipping.

From: In the boatyard installing the mast and engine, we don't need a crane, we harness the mesquito's! Yeah!
Come on now Mark, how would you lose her - your car should be a tad bit faster. Just sayin...
You could come help with the Euro "Lemons" car and get parts while your at it!
I'm thinking we can just tape hand grenades to the back for the race
