Origin of the Perl
At SITM, alot of folks asked me where Perl came from and who special ordered it.
I'd assumed it was the original owner, Linda M, but that still left unanswered questions.
Mainly, how did she know to order all the special options and paint (ie lumbar, sport shocks, LSD, & rub strip delete).
A few days ago, I tried to contact the OO via the guy I bought it from, John, who was one of her sea captains.
Spoke with John and unfortunately, Linda is not in the best of health. She has cancer.
John mentioned the the guy I should talk to is Darrel J, Linda's first captain.
Upon speaking to him I found he cared for Perl from '95 -'02 while under Linda ownership (backed up by receipts in his name from that time).
He said he loved Perl and took his family on trips with it. He even noted he wanted to buy it from John just before I did. Got lucky, I did.
Darrell is a great "car guy" and we had a good talk!
He said "knowing Linda, she wouldn't have special ordered any car. She was more of a go to the dealer and pick one out type. She had many cars"
So we put together that Perl was a deal spec'd showroom car for early '87.
The release of the S4 was much anticipated and the dealers really wanted to "lead with their best foot".
Linda must've walked into Rockville Porsche and bought it right out off the showroom floor.
And that's the story as I know it. Trail goes cold after that as Rockville has no history going that far back.

I feel privileged having experienced rides in this beautiful 928!
It is definitely up there with the nicest 928s I've seen, and I'm glad it is in such great hands.
Keep up the good work, Jim!
Oh, and your little one is super cute!

jimmy, I sincerely appreciate all your efforts to help me revive my spongy suspension.
Just wanted to publicy post what an outstanding human being you are...
A pimp of the finest variety! (that would be one with a big *** feather in his hat, a plaid, super huge collared knit suit, gold galore, and a stable of... welll... you know....
rhudy (guess I'd be the muscle portion of the detroit mafia show...)

Thanks Nicole for the pic and the great opportunity to meet you. I really wished we had more time to talk, and when we had the chance we were both tired (from of all things, talking.... )
Rhudy, thanks Bromo!
..........You see, a pimp's love is very different from that of a square.
Andrew, don't make me get out my pimp hand.

Wait for it......
Jim let me sit in the drivers seat and play with his shifter
On the way down Lorelei kept asking about who she would know at SITM. Everytime I mentioned your name she would ask: "Who was that again" to which I would reply "Muscles from Hell".

road trip shake-down complete
Finally got to put some serious miles on Perl this past week when my wife, child and I travelled to Michigan. Initial purpose of the trip was to make it to "Sharks in Hell" and decided to catch up with some family while there.
As you see, I have my priorities straight.
The reason I call it a shake-down is because this was the first trip with the whole family. Perl needed to perform flawlessly and it did... all 1600+ miles.
Before the trip I'd replaced the oil cooler lines with the Kevlar ones from 928 International. Very nice pieces!
Wife asked for a cup holder so I installed 2 flip-down ones console carpet side panels.
Also installed a Halon fire extinquisher under the pax seat for safe measure.
Lets not forget the Sunshine Kids Radian65 car seat for the kid.
On the trip the AC smelled a bit musty so I decided to clean the evaporator coil at my Dad's garage. Made a huge difference with a "fresh air" smell and colder temps.
1/2 quart of oil in 1600+ miles... no complaints there.
Trip was great!
