I replaced the LH and RH front panels in the front wheel wells today. (Thanks Roger at 928s-R-Us) The old ones had cracked beyond repair, and I had repaired them several times in the past. When the old ones were cracked I would replace the screw/bolt washer with a bigger steel washer and if deemed necessary fiberglass the area behind the cracks. All in all, NOTHING WORKED, at least not permently.
This time I'm taking a different approach. Using the old panels for material I made some 3" plastic washers. I even used some of the re-inforcement ribs of the old panels. My hope is that they will spread the load and be more flexible than the big steel washers. I also trimmed the panels to eliminate any binding. It was evident on the old panel that the binding was causing some cracks.
Also had a few WYIT items, one of which was a few lightening holes in the charcoal canister bracket.

Jim thats a great idea to use the old panel for new supports.
For the lightening the bracket i suggest that you spray it with some clear then wax it , this should prevent it from rusting, while your in the wheel well remove the hose connecting the washer tank and fill inlet and remove the old rusty metal collars , hot water seems to loosen them up, rinse out the tank, first by sliding out the washer pumps, this will keep rusty water from being sprayed onto the the hood and headlights

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

<----Clever is not the way to describe this Jim.
Now clever is someone who is willing to reinforce a piece of plastic, one that is willing to last 20 years, to make it last 40 years. Clever is one who plans to keep his/her 928 for 40 years.
