Default Tensioner bolt stripped, the oil passage one, RESOLVED

Hey folks,
Well as the title reads, I got a little problem. I'm in the process of installing a Porkension'r. The threads are stripped (I'll blame it on the PO's mech). I can deal with the non-oil passasge holes with a longer flange head bolt, or helicoil.

The bugger is the one that goes into the oil passage way. The P'kension'r bracket leaves about .600" thread engagement. Measuring the depth of the hole gives me roughly .720". If I hand tight a bolt (w/o the bracket) until it bottoms out, I get some extra meat. Not sure it this would be enough to meet torque spec.

I read Lizard's suggestion to back-blow compressed air thru the crank breather. I read Dr Bob's suggestion to go easy with a greased tapper (for oversized bolt).

Does a longer bolt block the oil passage?

So before I screw myself any further, I'm posting it to the board. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The oil return passage is large, and there's four(?) of them. With a non-airpump bracket, having all the bolts isn't as critical.

I'd try one of those epoxy thread repair kits.

Tom M. had buggered threads on his GT, I don't recall which ones though or how he fixed it.

The hole that leads into the oil passage is still blocked with a snapped off bolt. I didn't bother with that one. There is one bolt hole on the bottom that daylights out the back. I had to drill that snapped bolt out and ended up a little off..so I just used a longer bolt and then added a locking washer and nut off the back. My porkensioner has been on since October and I drove it down to Sharktoberfest. The three bolts are holding great and the porkensioner is working flawlessly.

In your case..I would helicoil (or timesert) the other three and then just load up the oil galley bolt with loktite (blue) and get as much torque as you can..and leave it. The other three should hold the porkensioner fine.. good luck...

Ken,
Thanks for the quick advice. It is the smog pump bracket. So, there are 4 bolts total, holding the bracket in place, right? Just check to see when to the flange supplied bottoms out in the back; ,670". So a longer bolt isn't going to cut it.

I'll have to look into that epoxied thread just for that one. The others I will helicoil. Gives me a poor excuse to by a helicoil kit.

Oh yeah, duh, you could also use a stud and flange nut!

use the helicoil just fill the gallery up with petroleum jelly/vasaline it will squeeze out the cuttings as u turn the tap in then just use compressed air to blow the chips and rest of the jelly out any remaining jelly will disolve in the oil
to put the jelly in just put some in a ziplock bag and trim one corner off then sqeeze it in the hole like a cake icing bag

I read this through 4 times, but not sure what to make of it.

Ken,
I took your advice and went with a stud and flange nut. Stud 40mm long. Assembled with JB Weld. Makes a good hanging point to mount the Porkension'r bracket and align the other bolts.

The reason I went this route is because I didn't want to drill and tap for a helicoil because it is open to the oil passage.

I helicoiled the other three holes and meet torque. On the flange nut, just used loctite and snugged up.

Thank you for your advice.
