How much are the entire assemblies? One of mine had a cracked bottom.

Brendan,
The half price sale at 928 Int is your best bet.

Found some information on the cam chains available, it seems the STD Iwis chain was used by Porsche as original.
IWIS is the Original Manufacture for Porsche.

We have pictured all three side by side. There is a visible and measurable difference between the IWIS chains and the Bilstein (Febi).

The difference in appearance and weight between the IWIS Racing chain and the OEM IWIS chain I cannot detect with the naked eye. Our scale is unable to measure a difference. Now there very well maybe a difference in the metallurgy. But the scale does not pick up the difference in density.

FWIW,

I had a pair of the Bilsteins that i had bought before i rebuilt my GT engine and they really looked like **** honestly. I would probably have gone with the used old ones over the bilsteins.

I ended up with the factory chain which ir either the IWIS racing or IWIS OEM chain, its much higher grade stuff and this is not a part i would skimp on. Not that i think the Febi/Bilsteins would break but i was less than impressed with them.

Peter,
Both IWIS and Bilstein are OEM to Porsche.
You pays your money and takes your choice.
I probably sell more of the IWIS racing chains than the others.

Can Yamabond be used instead? I have some left over from when I did my pan gasket but that was years ago. I know I can get more.

Thanks,
Glenn

Sure, you just need some sort of sealant. Make sure you scrape off all the old sealant, as the Yamabond will not soften the Loctite.

I tried Yamabond and it still leaked. I've got a huge tube of the loctite. Let me know when you need it. I'm not that far from you.

Default cam chains and tensioners replacement job

How much does it cost Roger for the work to be done to our car? Cam chains, pads and labor cost at your shop. I am planning in the spring time maybe spring the car to you......ALL depends on cost.

Hi.. I am about to install an original new cam tensioner assembly in 928 GTS,1993... I have a confusion as I checked the new assembly there is very less tension in it & no oil inside, the old assembly is good there is a lot of tension if we try to compress it with hands... but pads are in bad condition... How I am supposed to build pressure inside the cam tensioning assembly...I don't know if it could be a bad idea to install a new assembly without knowing if pretention is required or not ?
thanks

I have found the problem while comparing the old Vs new . Somehow the new one from bank 2 was not opened, so I used a screwdriver & pulled the piston , it came out & than everything was ok...
