Default 18 inch 8,5J ET 46 & 10J ET 54

I may have made a terrible mistake in buying a set of wheels that may not fit the car.
Dimensions:
18 inch 8,5J ET 46 (front) with Goodyear 97V 225/40
18 inch 10J ET 54 (rear) with Goodyear 97V 265/35

My car is a 1978 4,5
I bought them because I once nearly bought a 1980 928 that looked stunning with these wheels. Now I think the 8,5" will fit the front but 10" are probably too wide for the rears.
Any advice much appriciated!

You are actually pretty close, though beyond the acceptable margin on the front fitment. You could make the front fit, but they would stick out beyond the fender, more than likely will rub on full wheel lock, and have greater tendency to tramline due to it low ET46 offset.

The rears should fit fine.

You'll be fine with the rears, and I'm afraid you won't be happy with the fronts. They are going to probably stick out past the fender. Are those factory 96-98 993 turbo offsets? If so they might be hollow spokes.

You purchased them off Ebay right? I was looking at the same wheels. Front 46 ET just won't work on a 928.

ideal offset for the front of a 928 is 65 the lower the number the further they will stick out

Is it possible to machine the hub-face by 4-6mm to get the wheels tucked in? Does this compromise wheel integrity? I'm not suggesting anyone do this, just curious if it'd been done.

Depends on the wheel...On my aftermarket turbo twists. There's not much clearance to the brake caliper. Plus if you're going to go to that much trouble you may as well find the correct offset wheels.

I wouldn't do it. Risks outweight the looks. Plus I don't think their's a machinest that would attempt the job.

Short and simple: What's the ideal offset on the OB's and S4 and GT/GTS? A short answer may help many people. I'm looking for a good deal on rims right now so a quickie list would be awesome.
