Nice 500. I had a 92 which I sold about a year before I bought my 1st 928. The 500 is by far one of the best built cars ever. It is a tank and a great deal of engineering and thought went into the modifications necessary to stuff that big V8 into a chassis designed for a 6. I may get another some day but I need more garage space and $$ first. Velvet Hammer was first used to describe the 500E before AMG was purchased by Mercedes.

An 89 5spd for that price is a no brainer unless it's a mess and has a salvage title. I would do basic due dilligence and go for it. Good luck and post some pics

The 500E is an awesome car. This one has had a few mods, ASR defeat switch, first gear start, and some exhaust work. Extremely comfortable & quiet (with a nice V8 burble at idle & a significant bwahh with the loud pedal), very fast, handles & brakes very well for a sedan. Interiors on these benzes are extremely well made & durable and there is enough room for 4 people comfortably. The car is somewhat stealthy but gets a lot of second looks & guys looking in parking lots trying to figure out what it is (de-badged). I still look forward to driving it everyday.
I just got done with new motor & transmission mounts and a front crank seal. The mounts are almost as much of a pain as in the 928 & you get the same benefits from replacing them.

On to the $4500 89. I told my wife about it & she said "Call the guy back & tell him you'll take it" . I guess that seals the deal. I'll post some pics as soon as I get a chance to look at it. If for some reason I end up not purchasing, I'll pass the deal on to the list.
Mr Prantl- the car is not listed for sale & I discouraged the guy from trying to sell it in it's current condition (except to me, of course).

Thats a great deal and you could always turn it into a track car if it turns out not to be a nice street car.

$4500 is pretty darn cheap....... My 1st thought on the limp home problem is the cat temp sensor..which is easy to fix or bypass

I'm not sure if anyone here realizes it, but that music that plays when you hit that link is actually the sound the car makes whenever a key is in the ignition. He had it burned into a chip, set to loop continuously whenever it's on. It LOOKS like it has a NORMAL stereo system - that makes it stealth, right? Dam fine waste of a car in my opinion. Anyway, who the hell is Reggie Bush anyway??? Any relation to "W" perhaps???
