Nice 500. I had a 92 which I sold about a year before I bought my 1st 928. The 500 is by far one of the best built cars ever. It is a tank and a great deal of engineering and thought went into the modifications necessary to stuff that big V8 into a chassis designed for a 6. I may get another some day but I need more garage space and $$ first. Velvet Hammer was first used to describe the 500E before AMG was purchased by Mercedes.
An 89 5spd for that price is a no brainer unless it's a mess and has a salvage title. I would do basic due dilligence and go for it. Good luck and post some pics

The 500E is an awesome car. This one has had a few mods, ASR defeat switch, first gear start, and some exhaust work. Extremely comfortable & quiet (with a nice V8 burble at idle & a significant bwahh with the loud pedal), very fast, handles & brakes very well for a sedan. Interiors on these benzes are extremely well made & durable and there is enough room for 4 people comfortably. The car is somewhat stealthy but gets a lot of second looks & guys looking in parking lots trying to figure out what it is (de-badged). I still look forward to driving it everyday.
I just got done with new motor & transmission mounts and a front crank seal. The mounts are almost as much of a pain as in the 928 & you get the same benefits from replacing them.
On to the $4500 89. I told my wife about it & she said "Call the guy back & tell him you'll take it" . I guess that seals the deal. I'll post some pics as soon as I get a chance to look at it. If for some reason I end up not purchasing, I'll pass the deal on to the list.
Mr Prantl- the car is not listed for sale & I discouraged the guy from trying to sell it in it's current condition (except to me, of course).
