Default 78 Euro gets second chance

Bought Mark's 78 Euro for my daughter and figured I'd post a thread of the clean up and resto.

For those of you who have not met MARK... What a great guy!

I have a 1981 Euro S 5.0L hybrid on steriods.., my oldest daughter has a 1980 Euro 4.5L 5 speed, now my middle daughter has a 78 Euro 4.5L 5 speed! That's right it's not going to fleabay!

I have just about all the spare parts I need to get her going again. My daughter's B-day is the 30th, so it's her B-day present and for X-mas I'll have it runnning. Maybe paint in the spring, if she gets a JOB...

I feel kinda bad, for the price I paid I feel like I stole the car and trailer... I owe Mark big time. Hopefully he'll give me some driving lessons.

I more excited about this one than my first since it's for my daughter. We have our own 928 club at home now.

And yes, it'as going stock resto (other than S spoilers) unlike Ricerschnitzzle... you concours guys can breath easy.

It needs a good bit more work than my other daughters, but it's solid. Has blue/black leather interior and leather dash is actually in real good shape. Seats are decent with wear on driver's bolster as usual. Just need to change the back seats to black and paint the rear quarter skins. Seat covers on the blue front seats. Dash and doors are black. Though I may try making blue door inserts and see how the black and blue flows as is.

Need major cleaning to really see what I've got to work with. I have an extra set of 4.5L head gaskets and a brand new square tooth timing belt so, I'll tear the engine down to make sure she gets a fresh start.

I wish I had known you were in the area...I was JUST in Gulf Shores and drove over to the Navy Air Museum....yes...in my 928 all the way from Knoxville, Tn. About 900 miles one way. That was fun. Maybe next time.

You might have beat him to it if your car had all eight cylinders

Taking her off the trailer this morning, so excited. My daughter made me go out and by car wash and detail supplies for her last night...like it will help. No really, the interior will clean right up, just need carpet inder the seats and back deck. The paint, however needs lots of stripping, sanding and priming before we take it for a cheap spray.

Hooked a jumper box up last night and the lights, dash lights and radio all turned on. Good start. Today I'm going to see if the starter works. Then start working on getting the new fuel tank and pump installed. Turned the engine over by hand with a breaker bar last night and it was smooth as butta. Gonna pull plugs and check compression today as well. Who knows, the engine may be fine?

^SHe loves it. She's really looking forward to working on it with me. SHe's always been the tom girl of the 3 and helped me a lot with my shark. She's got a good eye and can see the "Down the Road" potential in the car. BTW she has decided she want's Gaurds red down the road.

Couple pics off the trailer. Engine is pretty clean considering it has sat on a trailer for a bit. Painted the wheel gunmetal black. Tires have a little dry rot on the sides so they are getting replaced. No need to tape them off.

Dash is in good shape also, seats are decent, back seats are real good, however bottom cushions on passenger's side have come loose and need to be glued back down.
