At this stage, it has to be something very special for me to allow anyone else to work on any of my cars, and especially the 928. Tire mounting and balancing is farmed out. I've done quite a few windshields, but all the goop and poop required to do the job correctly is best farmed out, IMO, especially since the glass replacement industry is very competitive - meaning you can't save much money doing it yourself. Otherwise, I figure I can do a repair myself three times over and still break even if I goof up the first two. And over the years I've amassed the knowledge and tools that allow me that freedom. Part of that knowledge is knowing when I'm in over my head or farming out makes sense. And of course, you have to really enjoy doing your own work.

I'm surprised that Andrew hasn't started a SITM 2009 thread.

Default Two sides to the story

I was employed at Rayco Eurospec Motorcars (not in service) when this 928 came in. I think what is not being said is that ALL PARTS were to be ordered by the owner and a lot of time was spent waiting for parts to arrive, only to find out that the wrong parts were ordered.... so wait again for the parts to arrive.

Rayco makes every attempt to accommodate the owner and since this episode went down, we no longer work on vehicles with supplied parts.

I have a friend who bought his 911 from Rayco... paid top dollar for it. When he brought it back to them for service a later that year they gave him a $8,000 service estimate. True story.

Was employed or newly employed??? 4 posts all defending Rayco and nothing else constructive to add about P-cars. Business must be slow.

I turned 2 folks away yesterday wanting me to install parts they supplied, not a friggen chance.
I learned that lesson a very long time ago.

Interesting.
How many shops cut corners on parts quality?

On other topics.
Yes, looks like we have a flurry of damage control in Pennsylvania.
Likely blame on both sides of the subject corridor, in this one case.

Wow.. All I can say is never let another touch your car.

My 'friend' who has a Porsche shop wants to charge me 800 bucks to install my torque tube.

Says its 10 hours of labor. Wow. Im planning to do it on my back in the garage this weekend. We will see (This is the same 'friend' that wanted 2k and change for a timing belt replacement (Oh and would not use Porkentensioner since he 'hadnt heard of it')
