And I was there with you (along with Old&New).

I spent what? 30 minutes showing their guy how to take apart the dash and console without breaking anything?

+1 what everybody else posted about the engine. The pistons, and rods are worthless and with the lower girdle upgephucked the block's useless. The heads, crank, and a few misc odds and ends on the motor are all thats valuable in the engine.

Let's see what it re-lists at....

To properly weld the lower bearing cradle the engine comes apart......then per Porsche you are to throw away the rods. Then you probably should drill the pistons and re-ring it and then and then.

All had blind holes at least until end of '95 MY AFAIK. Some warranty replacement engines send out after production ended might be different.

All GTS engines are not equal. There are two different GTS piston and piston ring styles, '92 and '93-95. Factory did try to fix oil issues but it wasn't nearly enough. There are at least 3 part combinations for short block. Late '94 MY and all '95 MY are best but they have had problems too.

Fixed it for you.

True according to the ol' supply and demand formula.

FWIW the relisting shows the broken thread bracket. They claim it is a bolt-on replacable part from Porsche. I have to say, it looks like it is a simple fix; but if so, why wasn't the baby saved?

its a simple fix if you could buy a brand new girdle that magically was machined to work with THAT specific block. Then again, who knows what porsche would charge for that one off girdle :-)

You wont find one so your stuck with doing a half assed welding job that may work ok i suppose, or you replace the bare block and girdle with another matching pair.

If you do decide to weld the lower girdle up. You need to remove the thing. Well when you do that you need to remove the rods, and those rods in that year MUST be replaced, and thats another $1500 for new rods and hardware, Also you would want to try and modify the pistons to eliminate the oil consumption issues, so when your doing that, you may as well do main bearings, rod bearings, rings head gaskets the list goes on. Its basically a core engine AT BEST. A very nice low mile core but still just a core none the less.

I would ask myself this, whats a GTS crank worth with, 89 plus heads (GTS heads are no different then those from 89 and later I THINK) the intake and cam covers are nice, the wiring seems to be nice and its a rare 5 speed harness.

The cams are ok as cores, not sure if these would be any more or less desireable then S4 cams though, I think less because i believe S4 cams would be an upgrade in a GTS, but then again they maybe the same.

So what are those parts worth to you? Either way you look at it, you will be dumping serious money into the engine and as such it can only be considered a core engine to be rebuilt.

'91-95 heads are compared to '87-89 early and '89 late-'90 heads. Difference is small compared to '89 late-'90 version.

GTS crank is probably $2k on its own. Might take a while to sell but eventually some GTS will kill 2/6 rod bearing.

GTS heads have eight additional small water ports on the headgasket surface near the exhaust for better coolant flow as I recall ...
