You sure got that one right..... Tim Dey's car goes 220 MPH , Anderson's car out runs the latest factory "race" 911s ..... etc. etc. The auto magazines would have gone NUTS in 1987 with a 220 mph road car !!!! That is 50 MPH FASTER than the record set by Kibort's car.... Even if the 78 928 had been fitted with the 5 liter 300+ HP engine that they had tested.

Yes, the "what if's".

FWIW, while playing with a friend's 962 project (had only the chassis)... we found some info via the 962crowd that Porsche considered supporting a 928 4V engined 962 LeMans entry via Kremer. 928 4V engine in a 962 body ??? That would have been cool.

Kremer brothers did want to put twin turbo S4 engine into 962 to keep it competitive against newer Sauber Mercedes etc but factory wasn't interested.

Bummer!

If only the factory was behind the effort, even if for just one year. One Porsche Racing year has got to be worth 10 for us!

Hell, in 1996 they could have added a new tensioner, gone to 6.0L and on and on..

IF ONLY........bright side is had they done all that these cars could still be out of my price range.

When I was helping on this 962 chassis (1997-1998), there was a rumor that Kremer got as far as an engine mockup, maybe even a dyno mule... sort of a "proof of concept" to get Porsche involved. Ever hear of this ?

We had hoped to see concepts for the turbo plumbing, but never got very far.

That is possible. They hoped to use 750hp S4 TT boat engine as basis for it. With different headers and better plumbing it could have been real monster. At the time Porsche had so little resources to spare that its no wonder they weren't interested.

A 750HP TT 5.0L 928 motor is NOT that far away......John Kuhn is currently at 572whp at 12psi using stock internals.....which translates to about 675hp.....a purpose built lower compression 928 motor could easily make 150HP/L....and be pretty reliable at that power level...since top turbos are well over 300HP/L

A 1500whp 928.....in theory it is possible with a custom built motor-intake-twin turbos (BIG)...but nothing in the driveline would last very long....I'm guessing a full custom driveline front TT back...

Factory had 750hp S4 TT test mule on streets of Stuttgart back in late eighties already. 1000 hp is easily doable but it seems everyone who is crazy enough to do it is too poor.

I would be less worried about compression ratio as I would be the stock intake at those power levels. Unless John goes to a stand alone along with a way to monitor each cylinder.

Right now the only upgrade on a 5-speed is the GTS box, even that is not bullet proof.
I'm sure Todd will eventually find out how much the stock Auto can take. He closely monitors the fluid and temp levels in his transmission.

That will be the next step for one of our vendors. Find a stronger box that fits into the 928 or offer a service to replace key internal parts with stronger components.

Been reading this thread and have been struck how great it is to have the Sharktuner now available to the 928 enthusiasts in the search of more HP/TQ. Tuning the engine after modifying it (Heck, even a stock 928 can benefit from a Sharktuner tune up) has always been the 928 owners Achillees heel. But not anymore thanks to John Speake! Cool to have people like him to as a 928 enthusiast and inventor!

Congratulations Dennis, Jim and Bill! This kind of work paves the way for others.

Thanks Constantine :-) It is succeses like this one that makes the hard work by myself and Niklas worthwhile.

One advantage of the PEMs is that they allow you to simultaneously data log all LH and EZK parameters.
Jim used this facility to great effect !
