Default Chrome hatch trim

Did some searching and couldn't find much about it.

Is there such a thing as original chrome trim around the hatch/front windshield or is this always done aftermarket?

examples:

Anyone else think it looks great on the earlier cars?

Also, one other minor cosmetic question. What is the name of the bit of rubber running down the door/side of the car and which models have it? Also, can it be easily removed or is the body work recessed/not painted where it sits? Honestly, I think that black 928 looks really fantastic and I would look into buying it if it wasn't and auto.

AFAIK the black finish just wears off of the early cars, and there was no chrome option available.

Other than a few prototypes or pre-production cars, I don't t'hink there were any 928s that left the factory without black trim. These pieces were anodized aluminum, but the anodization wore off, and some owners polished it.

Personally, I like the black.

IIRC the only chrome trim on the early cars was the key surround and light bezel.

When a piece is anodized and the black wears off, there is always a residue left on the protected edges. My 78 5 speed has brushed aluminum trim around the quarter windows that show no signs of ever being black. I don't know if they were like this from the factory or an after market repair was accomplished. The brush strokes are all oriented at the same angle, so my guess would that they were factory brushed.

I have heard that there were some very early cars that had bare alum / silver trim. Then it was changed to black. The ones that I have seen where people have polished them do not look right. It just stands out too much IMO.

Only the 78 IIRC. I have 1978 locks and they are chrome. I replaced them when I bought the car and were broken.

thanks guys.

Also, whats the deal with the rubber strip running down the side of the car/door? Can that be removed easily or is paint or bodywork not finished underneath? Also, which models have it?

The bump strips were an option and there are HOLES under it.
