Still Overheating!

I have a spare I can take some pictures on. I'll post the transistor part numbers later. There are four - two on each fan, thus two speeds for each fan. it's about an hour job. Hardest part is opening up the amplifier in a careful way so you can put to together again.

that doesnt make a whole lot of sense, in that at part throttle, its almost impossible to get the engine hot, no matter what the mixture. (unless you are dentonating all over the place)
I dont think a MAF can make a car run hot, especially at part throttle, like climbing a hill. the 02 sensor is doing most of the work to keep the average around lean stoich anyway.
sometheing else happened with your "hot" car after it didnt run for a while.

another thing to consider for running hot is the MAF.
had a customers car that would run OK till he went up a long hill then it would start to run hot.
we did everything short of replacing the HGs
finally the car sat for a winter in the garage then it wouldnt run ,
did a few things such as new plugs and brains and on and on,
Finally got a new MAF the car runs perfectly no more overheating up the hills

OK I ordered four more transistors from Newark. $25.72.
Part number 42M2411, NTE ELECTRONICS NTE2389
http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/pro...sp?sku=42M2411
I figure I'll rebuild my spare and see if it works and take some pictures along the way.

Thanks for posting the PN Fraggle, I think I have a spare around here, I may give this a try. when you get a chance, start a new thread for you fan controller rebuild.

MK when the owner was drivng his car up the hill using most of the throttle to keep moving at 60MPH is common ,
anyhow he was fighting this running hot issue till the MAF finally went so far out of calibration the engine wouldnt run .
This was also on my list of things that needed to be done to this particular car an intake refresh its an 87 BTW, the intake refresh still needs doing including replacement of all the usual intake related parts.
