The only messed-up dipstick I've ever found was the result of deformation of the upper part of the dip stick tube. It looked like someone had previously used a set of pliers or something to grab/mash/twist the tube and it was ever-so slightly oval at the top.
So, check the tube before you stick your new $20 stick in.

I know this is an old thread... is anyone still selling replacement dipsticks?
I found 928gt.com had them for $19.48, but wanted $20 to ship it... If that the best deal, then that's the best deal... just checking

Yeah Roger has everything, just not so much listed on his site. He'll definitely get back to you by monday. I'm 99.99% sure he has them.

It is a common problem. Mine was cracked exactly like those described in the thread. Got the replacement from Roger as many others have.
Give him a call and he'll fix you up.

These usually crack/break when you do not remove the tube/dipstick and try and take the cam cover off. I did this when I did the first TB/WP without any procedure.

My car came to me with a cracked dipstick way back when. I replaced with new, but still have that challenge once in a while when the o-ring sticks in the tube. I've tried various lubricants but none has been reliable enough so far. Maybe a slightly smaller o-ring is the answer. Good news is that almost 20 years later that replacement dipstick is still intact.
