Nordschleife Master
well i had this on my GT
it was cracked but it wasn't cracked to the point that the top of the dipstick broke off or anything.
And it didnt effect anything honestly.
I would replace with a new one, some porsche parts can be expensive, but i am always happy to find that MOST porsche parts even for 20 year old models are very reasonable. I would check around for a new one before dicking around trying to modify another. But thats just me

I thought I might have been able to find one on ebay or one of the parts site but alas.

I've had 2 break in the same location. Glued them both back together and on one I replaced that brittle green o-ring on one with a new ring and it works fine. On the other I just trimmed the o-ring down a bit and no problems now.

I wonder how many 928's have cracked dipstick syndrome?
My hypothesis is that the dipstick seasl itself very snugly in the oil tube and requires some heft to pull out.
The long nose makes it easy for one to pull at less than straight up on that yellow ring pull so the plastic cracks around the 'O' ring area.
I've replaced my cracked one cause I had no idear if the cracked tip would disintegrate any more and fall into the oil.
(Is there a screen at the bottom of the oil tube?)
I've heard lubing the 'O' ring before replacing and also a twisting the dipstick (suggested by Nicole) helps free up the dipstick for easier removal.

Wow mine is cracked in the exact same spot, when you go to pull it out, the cracked piece stayes in the tube while the stick tries to come out and then i have to yank to get it out.I think they all fail at that point.

Must be a common enough failure; broke mine also, tried gluing it but replaced it with new 4 years ago.
It now resides in the 'slightly used' parts bin.

WOW I've had two 928s in the past 10 years, and never had that problem. I check the oil in my car every time before I start it I have been thinking about replacing the one I have only because it looks old and beaten, sort of like me

plastic welder epoxy and force it in to the crack with some scotch tape. when dry (5min) remove the tape and wala . good for another 10 years.
(pull back the o ring, and clean area first with brake cleaner)

Here's mine:
Glued it initially, but have replaced the stick with another one, just to make sure the stump doesn't get stuck in the pipe or falls into the oil.
Cheers,
Erling
