Default Update on track shark!!!!!!!!!!

The race shop just called me with the weight and dyno #'s....

Dyno test was done on a mustang dyno with no correction factors...the straight numbers were 294whp @6100rpm and 286 ftlbs @ 3???rpm.....whats very encouraging is the AFR was consistantly 13.3-5 until 4500rpm then dropped to 11.5 where they stopped the test.....it was still making more power (surprising for S4 cams), but they stopped due to the rich mixture..... The race shop thinks there is at least 20+ whp left on the table once the mixture is right....As far as I have been told, other that the full exhaust mods, everything else is stock, even the airfilter....my guess is there is an adjustable or rising rate pressure regulator set too rich..... I have an extra stock regulator to try if thats the case.... that plus some sharktuning might get 320whp.... Dynojets are supposed to test about 5% higher than mustang dyno's...

The weight with 1/2 a tank (estimated 80lbs of gas) was 2792lbs with the stock seat....without the stock seat it was 2732.....this is with a stock battery, windshield & flag windows.....some sound deadening was removed...so I figure there is about 80lbs savings between those few things...or about 2570lbs before the cage and new seats are added back in (empty tank)....so once those are added back in (estimated 50lbs for seats + harness, 100lbs for cage) would put me at 2720lbs...or still quite good for a 928....

I'm going up to the shop tomorrow and will get the dyno sheets, balancing sheets then....

Nope.......I still have to do the Flap-O-dectomy before I can sell it..... Oil change and O2 sensor was last week.....

I'm still on the fence about the 88.....sure the extra cash would be nice right about now.....but its not exactly a good time to sell a "fun" car being winter and bad economy-etc

Are you building this for DE or a particular race class?

My long term plans are to build the car to NASA GTS and SCCA ITE spec, so it can pass tech for either....... The cage will be either 1.75 x.095 or .120 depending on if the builder determines it will pass the 3000lb barrier wet with driver....& it will be close, since I weigh 200lbs...

I want to drive the car mostly in DE's for the bulk of the 2009 season, get my SCCA license and maybe enter 1 or 2 races at the end of next season, to see how it feels..... Assuming I am ready then I will do a full campaign in 2010 SCCA ITE....

There is a good local SCCA ITE class to race in...lots of different cars that are very close in performance & this car should fit in nicely.....

Greg
Ya by the time spring comes and the $$$$ situation is better I'll probably list sharky for a BIG price....then when it doesn't sell (darn) I'll just keep sharky.....

My '88 on a DynoJet made almost exactly 5% fewer HP/Tq than your car on the Mustang. I know I have more. I watched Mark Robinson's '86.5S a few years back pull 300+ whp and wtq (corrected). That HP number was better than either of my GTS's but it was not making the Tq of the GTS's.

You will have fun with that car. When you pull 1000# (or close to it) out of a stock 928 and don't do ANYTHING else to the car, that alone makes it a hell of a fun track car! Start doing some tuning and such and it just gets better!

I wouldn't worry much about about the fat fuel ratio.. If you were actually driving the car more air would be pushed into the mix and you might be right where you are supposed to be.

I'll 2nd Abby's comments that the richness isn't really a bad thing. Run it and run it hard!

Heres the dyno chart....... all three runs were pretty similar....with each run getting slightly lower due to heat soak...which makes sense...

Bill & I checked the engine today to determine why its so rich..... the fuel pressure regulator was stock & the LH chip was also stock? So that leaves me wondering a bit?

I was thinking the same thing....but is the later regulator with the metal return line....but wouldn't it high across the board with a pinched return line..... I should have pulled the vac line to check for gas.....thats easy...

That car is going to be a blast! I can only imagine what it must be like driving one of these cars after removing about 1000lbs - Awesome! Hope you get it on the track soon and have some fun!
