Thanks for your efforts on this - I'll definitely be buying a couple when they are available.

Is their something sigificant about 13 short shifters ????
Ummmm....just a glimpse into the future. Maybe. We might be working on something. You never know.

Having been down this bearing path not too long ago on our new product line, I can understand the process Leslie, Ed and crew are going through very well.

The determination has been made to provide a much better and robust version of our water pumps. That being the parameters, the bearing unit, which is an important part of the pump, has been deemed to be inadequate for the newer version. Then a search begins to find the better solution. That's when the fun really begins.

There are many bearings and manufacturers out there, but when you are looking for specific parameters the list grows very short as to the bearings available. It will be interesting to see what Leslie and her bearing guru can come up with. Maybe this project deserves a custom bearing unit, maybe not.

I am confident that Leslie, Ed and crew understand our concerns being voiced on this thread and they will keep them in mind when making decisions for this project.

Cheers,
Constantine

Thank you very much for your referral, 90 S-4, we will keep Mesa in mind. However, we have confidence in our guy, and he has put a lot of time into this already, so we would like to see what he comes up with first.

I think the OK pump is only the tip of the iceberg.

Leslie,
I'm not sure that prototype is going to work. Those corners might get in the way!

Kevin and company:

Keep up the good work.

I'm sure you know this, but from a guy who was involved in some prototyping and design projects in a former life:

WRT the bearings, prototyping and production are two different processes.
Don't promise to reward your prototype guy with production numbers. We did that and got bit hard. The processes should be separate with the eventual goal of production (and owner maintenance if possible) in mind, not just producing small numbers now through a single vendor with the goal of this guy being the only one that can provide what's needed.

He may be the best, he may be a genius, he may be able to do it better than anyone else on the planet. But these are all more reasons you should to NOT put all your eggs in that basket with respect to production.

Good luck from a future WP customer.

Mike,
You just never learned the secret to putting the square peg into the round hole.

Is there a plan to deal with housings that have been bored oversize by the current rebuilders? I would assume you'll pick a maximum bore size and any housing that arrives for rebuild bigger than spec is rejected? Or something else? (I'm not a hunk of burnin' desire to know the plan. As long as there is A plan to deal with housings that have been through 0, 1, or 54 rebuilds, then I'm good...)

There's no market for a $300 pump that would justify this kind of effort on these cars. Simple fix, like...

- circlip for the bearing/seal cartridge, and a
- Locking pin on the impeller

is all that is needed.

How about an update on this, what's the status?

I have scheduled a tb/wp and cam seal job on my '79 for the end of January, FWIW.

Pending the outcome of the new pump from Leslie and Kevin I have moved forward with the Hamburg Technic pump as being the better option over a rebuilt pump. New interferance fits on the cartridge seal, pully and impellar have to be far better than the rebuilds on rebuilds.

I have some questions in my head about Hamburg Technic overall but so far so good.
There service has been good as is there response to my questions. The product looks excellent and I have shared it with a lot of the local 928 owners and we all agree it looks and feels good.
Bearings run smooth and clearances look right.

At circa $150 I am going with it and have fitted it to a couple of my own cars with complete success.
Some of my loyal customers have followed my lead and chosen this pump over the rebuild.
