My wife drove her 79 every day and it worked well for several years. The old very brown 1980 was my daily driver for many years now is a drive to the track and hopefully drive home after 2-3 hours of beating on it ! They are real cars meant to be driven. Any car 20-30 years old will have had some things that needed to be fixed replaced.

Mine is a daily commuter. However, since I live only 4 miles from work, not much of a commute. On the weekends, I drive my wife's Civic Hybrid and enjoy 46 MPG for errands and leisure and keep the Shark safe from the indignity of narrow parking spaces, door dings and other insults.
I suppose if prem. gas came down to a dollar I would consider driving the 928 more on the weekends, but once you get used to 46 MPH it is really hard to switch to 15!

Mine was a DD & occasional track car for 1-1/2 years. Down to once a week due to change in location/commute conditions (50mi logging road to/from work - anyone gravel rally their 928?)
Now using stripped down Talon TSi AWD for commute....

I drive mine every day, or did until fuel became so expensive. Now I try to NOT drive it. When I first bought it I planned to drive it only on the open road and not in the city. I have another car for use in the city. Forget that. The daily beater Rabbit is sick and I don't like it. I want an Audi A-3 as a replacement. But until I get one, I will use the 928.
I have put 80,000 miles on it in the last 5 1/2 years, while also using the Rabbit for town driving. It needs work. I keep using it anyway. It needs paint. I keep using it anyway. It is probably the best GT car I've ever owned. I'll keep it forever or until it self destructs. Maybe I'll buy another one and keep that one forever too. The only problem is keeping my right foot / ankle under control. Hmm........Bill seems to have that same problem with his car, but to him it doesn't seem to be a problem but a way of life.

Yep, daily driver. Can't stand my wife's Civic, can't afford to drive around in the F350 (it's a V10), and although I love it, I'm selling my XJ40 (or giving it to one of my sons, he needs a beater).

DD when I don't walk to work (lucky). Over the past 18 months I have noticed the wealth of information saves you time & $$ on this forum. Do do the maintenance and learn to 'wrench' on the car whichever you buy.

Got my cupholder off of Ebay....not pretty but works really good.
Took a flyer (and yes I know I was lucky to put it mildly....) picked mine up in late May, had been sitting for a while, and the seller claimed to have no service records. Long story short, found some records and managed to locate the previous owner and get some verbal history on the car........1,000 miles home on bad brakes and crappy tires......been my daily driver since then, 70 miles round trip daily , five days a week and roaming on the weekends.. (Footnote, I worked on high end cars in a previous life (long long ago and far far away...in the 70's)( Ferrari/Masserati/BMW etc. so I had a good idea what I was getting into). Made the mistake of driving one of these in the early 80's when a friend had a good year....and been hooked ever since.....(and I've owned/driven some fairly out-there performace cars)
In any event, what the people here are saying is the way it is....the more you drive them, the better it gets. It's what they're designed for. If you don't know, pay for the inspection from a reputable source...it'll be worth every penny and then some., And finally...there is a maintenence thing that if you don't adhere to, you will be in for a world of hurt (read financial)....
Mine's got to go into hibernation soon too but I'm hoping for another few weeks yet.....and then it'll be back to the back-up / tow vehicle ('95 Suburban) (2 Kids...Toys) until the snow melts. As the saying goes, there simply is no substitute.......
