But they were available without as well, just not as common.

Originally designed without the mouldings...kinda like the sealed beams on the early US cars..a crappy but necessary evil at the time...

nothing like repairing dents and dings on an aluminum skinned door back in the day..not many manufacturers used aluminum panels at that time..
