But they were available without as well, just not as common.

I know that i like the moldings,this is how this vehicle is ment to be,your destroying the craftsmenship of dr. ing. was he really a dr.?

Originally designed without the mouldings...kinda like the sealed beams on the early US cars..a crappy but necessary evil at the time...

nothing like repairing dents and dings on an aluminum skinned door back in the day..not many manufacturers used aluminum panels at that time..
