So, if a Sharktuned chip will not connect to a diagnostic tester this sounds like a real problem for people who have a Sharktuned chip and have a problem, like George, at some later date and do not own or have good access to a Sharktuner. So, the answer for them is to swap in a stock MY88+ chip for testing even though it will be way off tuning wise?

I imagine this also true for PEMs, right?
Hi Bill,
Sorry my bad....... an EPROM blown from a SharkTuner session WILL be OK with diagnostic testers. (at least at present)

It is PEMs that are not compatable.

Just to be clear here before I dive off the cliff and place my order;

1. The SharkTuner will read defaults from my LH and EZK using Tim's Murf Stage III blown chips.

2. I will need to buy the Sharktuner from DR, but he cannot supply the ribbon cable I need for the 87 ? So I get that from Louie?

3. The PEM's are not compatable because I have the sharktuned blown chips installed from Murf.

Sorry for all the questions here, but just want to be clear in my thinking before I proceed.

Thanks

As I understand it the Sharktuner is used in place of the Eproms and stores the maps needed for optimum tuning of the fuel injection and ignition brains. The stored info is then used to 'blast' new eproms so the brains can be closed up and the car then runs with the new programs. The ST is also used to detect many potential issues such knock and hall sensors, the flappy etc etc.

The Sharktuner is available at 928 SP fully configured; check out their site. I only asked about Louis as he's has stock of JDS MAFs and rebuilt LHs and is closer to my location.

3. The PEM's are not compatable because I have the sharktuned blown chips installed from Murf.

Was a sharktuner used to program the Murf chips?

Sorry for all the questions here, but just want to be clear in my thinking before I proceed.

Thanks

Hello David,
Answers :-

1) You can use any diagnostic tester with the ST developed chips supplied with the Murf Stage 3 kit.

2) As Malcolm says, you can buy a complete SharkTuner from DR. Louie stocks spare ribbon cable adaptors as some people have broken pins on them.

3) You can fit and use PEMs in your ECUs. You would need Tim to send you the bin files he developed for your kit, so you can load them into the PEMs. Are you intending to further develop the s/c kit ?

With PEMs fitted, you can use a ST to fault find any issues that may arise.
You will not be able to use a diagnostic test with PEMs (at present.)

I hope that answers your questions. I am sorry I wasn't clearer before, I am dog tired.

Thanks John for this info.

I (at this time) am not looking to further develop that kit, but wanted to know my possibilities with a tuner going forward.

This has been very helpfull

Thanks again
