These fish live year round, even in winter as long as the pond doesnt freeze all the way to the bottom?
Partially correct. In nature there is a lot of oxygenated water per fish so ice-overs are not a problem. In backyard ponds, the concentration of fish to water is much higher so a 'lid' of ice over the top may suffocate the fish as there is no gas exchange between the water/air interface and oxygen is consumed at higher rates with higher stocking densities. Many people think that their fish 'froze' to death when in fact, they probably were starved of oxygen by the ice covering.
I usually have no ice as i employ a heater in my system to keep the entire body of water above 35 degrees. The great depth to surface ratio insures that heating costs are pretty low (about $20/month average from December through March for my 2000 gallons). The relatively constant ground temperature at lower depths moderates the heat loss at and near the surface.

Hi all, this turned out to be quite a thread (lol) ... ok, so I checked and neither rear side marker light is coming on. Let's be charitable and assume both bulbs burned out ... any special tip for changing these. Looks like you have to reach them from behind/below to change the bulbs ...

Drivers side is easy, Passenger not so easy. I had my car on a lift so I took the time to change a four bulbs, well worth the time. Didn't look like a fun job laying on my back.
Can you post some larger pictures of this pond. Im not sure who these others are posting here,i think their new, because the typing just isnt so good.
Hello Sidesnatch,
Since you asked and there seems to be a few people here with pond interest, here are a few pics of my pond and backyard.
But on the original topic posting, I just replaced my rear passenger marker lamp a few weeks back. Small, dextrous hands are helpful. I must have used the wrong wattage bulb as my '!' light still tells me that i have tail lamp failure. Bak to the wing nuts for me. Anyway, here are your requested pond pics.....
WOW some of those fish look 3' long, that is really beautiful, are you able to get that limestone rock locally? Is the pond lined with something, does it have a filter system, whats on the bottom? A mist machine would look cool in their.
