That's good news, dude! It means it's worth doing the timing belt and water pump and maybe it will stay that way. I'm really really happy to hear it, for your sake. ![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)

you need to undo the clamp bolt and see if the flex plate moves also see how much freeplay the crank has with the front clamp bolt loose. Also get the rearclamp bolt retorqued, if one is tight and the other loose then your work will be for nothing

Checking for TBF is so simple that anyone could do it. You could buy a jack, jackstands, a set of sockets, and the measuring tools needed and STILL only be halfway to the $500 you were quoted. It's about an hour's work, maybe 1-1/2 if the car still has full belly pans. See these links:

The mechanic couldn't give a fark and doesn't want to bother figuring out a TBF check cause it isn't profitable like his other MTM tasks.
At least that's the remote vibe I get from him.

That's very true, but you don't want to pay some idiot whose never done it try it. Once the pinch bolt is loose, if he doesn't have that measuring stick ready. Lose that check.
There has to be somebody up there that would be willing to help George with this. If I lived close, I'd help.
I doubt the car has belly pans.
13mm socket and wrenches for the exhaust.
13mm socket to get the 6 bolts off the housing
8mm hex head for the pinch bolt.
small metal ruler that has milimeters.
Torque wrench for putting that 8mm back to spec.
Done job.

Black pan + silver pan = belly pans
Go to a 928 parts vendor and order a bellypan fastener kit.
Gets you a fresh set of matching screws with their captive washers that making working with the bellypan much less frustrating if the old screws and such are a mess.

Then again, those pans are only used to hide dirt/oil/grime. I'll take them off your hands for $200.00 and a Jim Morehouse WSM set.
