Default Engine build ideas, money is no object

If you had more money than you knew what to do with and wanted to build the ultimate street/show drivetrain for a 928, using a 928 engine, what would you do? Some aspects of the project. Please explain your choices as much as you care to.

1. What MY/engine would you start with and why?
2. Stroker, SC, Kuhn's Twin Turbo, Stroker w/ SC, Stroker w/TT?, Describe the engine setup, ie compression ratio, fuel delivery, injectiors, etc.
3. What transmission? AT, Manual?
4. What rear end ratio, LSD?
5. What clutch to best transfer the power? Keep in mind, money is no object, so frequent clutch change is ok.
6. What special treatments would the engine and parts get, nikasil, cryogenic,?
7. What other goodies would you add, nitrous, water injection, alcohol.
8. What horspower/torque would you expect from your setup, ie a 6.4L stroker with twin turbos, 450 hp before boost and 700-800 with 15lbs of boost?
9. Wheel/tire size and type to be able to stick to the ground as much as possible with all that power.
10. Estimated cost of your finished drivetrain?

Also, if any of you have more money than you know what to do with, I'll take some of it for a project like the one above. :-)

It's already under construction:

The project is still moving forward. A lot of very custom parts have been made / still being designed for this project.

1: S4 due to the 32V engine and I prefer the looks
2: A boosted stroker would be nice......imagine a boosted 427!!!!
3: a weak spot for all high power 928's so how about a hewland sequential with Tilton triple disc clutch
But a custom automatic AMG Mercedes 5 or 7 speed would be nice and those hold 604hp 739 torque
in a 4500lb car bone stock.....
4: With this kind of power I would go fairly high, say 2.20 but it would be custom depending on tranny
5: Tilton triple disc or the heavy duty torque convertor in the AMG setup
6: I don't know.....whatever it takes to make the engine last
7: Probably all kinds of stuff
8: In theory a boosted 7L could easily make 1000+hp
9: You would have to run 12" wide rears with 335 or 345 tires
10: Way more than I will ever have....I would guess a $100k project + the car

How about a 7.3L (447ci) with 8.5/1 and 20psi...just something I have been tossing around in my head. Adaptable direct injection would be a huge benefit. Back it up with a sequential 7-speed and you will have way more power than you will ever be able to put down to the ground.

Cost? Just send me a blank check.

14 plus liters---late block, deck spacers, removable liners, stroker billet crank, titanium rods, skirtless/coated blower pistons

gear drive for cams/oil pump

32V heads or 16V Euro heads with custom machined cam holders--aggressively reworked

custom roller cams/buckets

dry sump, crank scraper, windage tray, gear driven oil pump

magneto ignition

Ott ITB w/ two stage injection

Barry Grant fuel delivery system

Kuhn twin turbo kit

aluminum flywheel, dual disc clutch

Liberty or Lenco 5-speed adapted to Viper rear

treated torque shaft and axles

335 rear tires

1500hp on race gas (?)

9000 rpm capable

Much if this can be done------How big is your wallet?

(this will only cost about $60K just for the parts and machine shop work.....not bad, but it's simply easier to drop in a big block anything and get near the same numbers.......for half the money----Ooops...should not have said this, it'll just start another silly argument.)

Or, just drop in one of these-----

665ci Mopar wedge
1210hp @ 7400 rpm, 1000 ftlbs torque @ 5800 rpm

about $35k built, dynoed, ready to go.....just add motor plates and a adapter for the clutch, bellhousing and torque tube.

Well, when you put it in the car, can you bring it to 3rd coast? That would be worth seeing.

wouldn't be anything more unusual than the pro mod 928 I suppose......

(right now isn't the time for spending on play things-----pumping everything I can find into Roth IRA, 401, R2's 529, Deb's Roth IRA, etc.......)

S4 engine built to stock specs using Porsche parts blueprinted and balanced, oil scraper system, stock intake with flappy removed, tuned higher flow Bosch injectors used for Porsche turbos, single rear mounted turbo near the tranny, intercooler, Shark Tuned stock but rebuilt 928 brains, keep boost at 10 pounds or under looking for between 400-500 HP/TQ at 2500-6000+ RPMs, and a lot of tuning at the dyno.

This motor should help to keep the costs down and be a good track car motor that should be reliable, reasonable to maintain, won't munch trannys and clutchs too much and if coupled with a lightweight 928 tub, hopefully be competitive for track events.

Abby and I have been discussing such a motor for a long time.

As far as the rest of the parts pieces, nothing too bizarre - big brakes, LSD tranny, 275s/315s front/rear tires on 18s, Hans compatible seat, fire system, and so on.

Cheers,
Constantine

4.5 or 4.7 litre all motor
custom flat crank
944 2 valve heads ported all to hell
wild cams
forged alum pistons
custom rods
just to see what you could get at 7,000 rpm

That would be fun
